"But Allah leads astray whom He will and guides whom He will. He is the Almighty, the Wise." - Quran 14.4

"By the morning hours
And by the night when it is stillest,
Thy Lord hath not forsaken thee nor doth He hate thee,
And verily the latter portion will be better for thee than the former,
And verily thy Lord will give unto thee so that thou wilt be content.
Did He not find thee an orphan and protect thee?
Did He not find thee wandering and direct thee?
Did He not find thee destitute and enrich thee?
Therefore the orphan oppress not, Therefore the beggar drive not away,
Therefore of the bounty of thy Lord be thy discourse."

I like Surah Al-Fatiha. To me it reads like a Psalm:

In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful. (Ps.148:8).
All praise is God's, Lord of the Worlds (Ps.9:1, Ps.90:2; 10:16).
The Beneficent, the Merciful (Ps.25:6).
The Master of the Day of Judgement (Ps.50:6).
Thee alone do we worship, of Thee alone do we seek help (Ps.30:8).
Guide us on the right path (Ps.27:11; 25:4).
The path of those upon whom Thou hast bestowed Thy bounties (Ps.31:19).
Not the path of those on whom fell Thy wrath nor of those gone astray (Ps.28:3).

Hello Onkara. I don't know whether intentionally or unintentionally , you didn't quote the complete verse as been found in Chapter 14 , verse 4 . The complete verse reads as follows -

[014:004] And We never sent a messenger save with the language of his folk, that he might make (the message) clear for them. Then Allah sendeth whom He will astray, and guideth whom He will. He is the Mighty, the Wise.

Without the first part as quoted by you gives an impression GOD as unjust , while such is not the case . Taking the consecutive verses in consideration [14.1-14.4] the context clearly shows that GOD chooses those to go astray who disbelieve GOD and in the message of HIS apostle.

Moreover your translation suffers from a serious defect which also cause a vice to understand GOD . "But Allah leads astray whom He will and guides whom He will. He is the Almighty, the Wise." , in place of But , the right word will be then,for-that etc. The original Arabic word used there is Fa and it is used to relate two segments of a sentence when the first segment is a reason and the second segment is the consequence of the first . Therefore the verse in question should be understood in the following manner -

Cause - Disbelieve in GOD and the messenger
Fa <Then/For that reason>
Consequence - GOD wished them to go astray .

Now let me tell all of you my favorite verses of the Quran . These are from 01.01 to 114.6 :)

I usually do the same thing to the Quran that I do with the Bible. Before opening I pray that God about my problems and to guide me with this book with understanding. Then I open the book and read from that page.

Right now, I am going through a problem in getting hearing aids as I have profound to moderate hearing (reverse sloping in left ear and a cookie bite in the right according to the audiogram.) Medicare and Medicaid doesn't cover for hearing aids so I am trying other means. I am hoping that my PASS cadre, who is helping me go through school, will give the ok to fund for hearing aid, otherwise I will have to drop out of school.

Anyways, I opened the Quran and found this:

22:76- "He knows what is before them and what is behind them: and to Allah go back all affairs (for decision).

My mom is constantly telling me to "leave it in God's hands." whenever a situation such as this comes up and this is how I interpret this quote.

And Ismaila, that is my favorite verse as well, as a Plural Spiritualist, it is important that one is allowed to freely explore their spirituality without repercussions and to discard or follow what one feels is right in their heart.

I love the Qur'an, and I love the Prophet. :)

"Have We not caused thy bosom to dilate,
And eased thee of the burden
Which weighed down thy back;
And exalted thy fame?
But lo! with hardship goeth ease,
Lo! with hardship goeth ease;
So when thou art relieved, still toil
And strive to please thy Lord."

i like Ar-Ra'd (13:11) in the " God won't change someone's condition if that person doesn't change his own condition" part....

i think the most important thing is struggling to get what we want. not thinking whether God will help us

"And in the earth are portents for those whose faith is sure.
And also in yourselves. Can ye then not see?"
