"But Allah leads astray whom He will and guides whom He will. He is the Almighty, the Wise." - Quran 14.4
Hello Onkara. I don't know whether intentionally or unintentionally , you didn't quote the complete verse as been found in Chapter 14 , verse 4 . The complete verse reads as follows -
[014:004] And We never sent a messenger save with the language of his folk, that he might make (the message) clear for them. Then Allah sendeth whom He will astray, and guideth whom He will. He is the Mighty, the Wise.
Without the first part as quoted by you gives an impression GOD as unjust , while such is not the case . Taking the consecutive verses in consideration [14.1-14.4] the context clearly shows that GOD chooses those to go astray who disbelieve GOD and in the message of HIS apostle.
Moreover your translation suffers from a serious defect which also cause a vice to understand GOD . "
But Allah leads astray whom He will and guides whom He will. He is the Almighty, the Wise." , in place of But , the right word will be then,for-that etc. The original Arabic word used there is
Fa and it is used to relate two segments of a sentence when the first segment is a reason and the second segment is the consequence of the first . Therefore the verse in question should be understood in the following manner -
Cause - Disbelieve in GOD and the messenger
Fa <Then/For that reason>
Consequence - GOD wished them to go astray .
Now let me tell all of you my favorite verses of the Quran . These are from 01.01 to 114.6
