What Movies do you WANT to Watch?

nutshell

That's an impressive list. How do you discover these movies? How many movies do you watch a day/week?

I try to watch a movie a day if I can, mostly movies that are available that I have read intersting reviews about or movies that I just want to give a try because I like the people involoved. That is one of the frustrations about the many movies compiled on that list, that they are not easily accessable. Some are still only available in VHS format but as you know, VHS rentals are very difficult to come by these days. Since I have only heard about these movies from brief reviews and/or descriptions, it isn’t practical for me to purchase everyone of these (but at one time I did enjoy the hunt). I prefer to watch a movie first before I decide if it will become part of permanent library.

Many of these movies come from movie periodicals and magazines that I am interested in.
Cult Films
Psychotronic
Oriental Cinema
Draculina
Cinema Retro (published in the UK)
SHE
Ecco
Famous Monsters
Film Threat
The Dark Side (published in the UK)

I Am Legend
AVP: Requiem
The Golden Compass

and missed it in theatres and waiting for the DVD:
Pirates of the Caribbean: At Worlds End

I forgot about AVP.

I'm surprised I'm the only person who wants to see Cloverfield.

I would check out Cloverfield, from the trailers it seems like the "The Blair Godzilla Project."
That's pretty much what it is. :p Apparently though, the "godzilla" creature isn't the only thing they have to worry about. I think Cloverfield is going to put a whole new spin on "monster" movies.

....and then of course there is the upcoming Voltron. Power Rangers anybody?

But... Voltron came before power rangers...

...?

Wait a minute, how old are you?
26 my good lady. ;)

Actually I think Power Rangers may have started before Voltron....in Japan anyways. "Power Rangers" as it's known in the states, is actually a series in Japan called "Super Sentai" which started in the late 70's. I think that super sentai was the beggining of multi-colored heroes riding around in giant robots, I'll have to check. :p

I got one of those forwarded e-mails that make the rounds on the internet about how this movie has an anti-religious message. Nobody can quite agree on whether it's specifically anti-Catholic, anti-Christian, anti-organized-religion, anti-God, or what. Snopes even confirms that the bias is not a rumor.

My wife was all set to take our daughter because of the cool previews and Burger King toys, but now she doesn't want to, although I wouldn't be opposed.

Does anyone else have any impressions on this?

The original series (His Dark Materials) contains heavy criticism of organized religion and dogmatism. I think it would be a shame to miss out on it based on that. They are my favourite set of books even when I first read them as a Christian.

I haven't seen the film so hopefully they haven't screwed it up.

Done here.
I'd like to see The Golden Compass.

There are a lot of highly-acclaimed movies I've never seen and would like to see some time. For instance:

Casablanca
An American in Paris
Top Hat
Au revoir, les enfants
How Green Was My Valley
A Night at the Opera
Goodbye, Mr. Chips
The Last Temptation of Christ
My Own Private Idaho
The Big Lebowski

Someday I'd like to get around to seeing Orgazmo, too.

I'm also looking forward to Beau Jest, not because I heard anything great about the movie, but just because I love Lainie Kazan.

Out of any recent films in the "movies that I really want to but don't want to see" department comes the current release of SEPTEMBER DAWN on DVD. Looking foward to the commentary though (if avaliable).

I've seen those three movies on your list. All of them are definitely worth watching!
