"Birds of a feather ... " I expect. I used to frequent a very conservative Christian site, but they got more and more nasty and cliquish as time passed, until they had chased all the more liberal and moderately conservative folks off. And frankly, I found that the more liberal folks tended to be the better educated, better read, and more interesting and informative folks to dialogue with. So eventually I left as well.Radio Frequency X said:Judging by this poll, it would appear that the majority of people on religious forums are liberal. I wonder why that is.
Voting is the tiniest part of an active poltical life. A fraction of a second.Mavrikmind said:I've become so discusted with politics I refuse to have anything to do with it any more.
I try to focus all my energy on my life and things that I can control. When I look at who is running for what, I just get depressed. Most politicians aren't worth my vote, it's like voting for bad or really bad.
Just isn't worth my time.
You'd likely call me liberal, RFX. I most certainly do not support completely free markets. I understand that you're libertarian ideology teaches that free markets make free people (and I'd be willing to listen and contribute to a thread on the subject) but I simply do not buy that. Liberty is crucial, but not for markets. Why? Because people count for more. People are more important than principles and most crucially, people are more important than profits. I personally don't care if you, me or anyone else is not free to own and control specific capital (the NHS in the UK, Bolivian water, or Venezualan oil), as long as you, me and everyone is free from starvation, homelessness, and disease.Radio Frequency X said:Judging by this poll, it would appear that the majority of people on religious forums are liberal. I don't have anything against conservatism, and think I am myself conservative in a number of ways, but it seems that the umbrella of "conservatism" these days has come to cover a lot of narrow-minded, angry, bigoted folks who make a lot of negative noise and sort of drown out the many more moderate conservatives around them. And these narrow-minded, angry, extremist type conservatives believe that moderate conservatives are "liberals" pretending to be conservative, and so they tend to attack them as impostors and chase them off. Some of them come here, and begin to align themselves with the more liberal (and accepting) people and positions they find, here.
