What Really Irks Me About Some Of The Posters Here Is. . . .

Please finish the sentence.

Let's us know what posting practices you find irksome, aggravating, annoying, irritating, exasperating, or just plain bothersome.

Be specific, but be kind.

To start off: What aggravates me is when I ask a question and it's ignored, and the respondent counters with a question of his own.
.

.
Not annoying, more like disappointing. Lack of desire to think in innovative ways and against the grain of ones own preferred positions.

It annoys me when I've had to tell a certain poster things 1,000 times and still the message does not sink in and we end up going through the same debate every time we interact.

I don't understand! Mind repeating that, please?

If one uses a non-standard abbreviation without having defined it earlier, I'll generally scroll past the rest of that post. I'm not really interested in trying to figure out what a person means who can't be bothered to write out a phrase. I can't see why I would make more effort to understand somebody than they are willing to make to be understood.

What grinds my gears is when people make unproductive posts, not because they have something to say, but because they have to say something.

I tend to waste my time only once reading something posted by such a poster and skip over their posts moving forward.

What really grinds my gears about some posters is posting far too little. Claiming to have lives and such. What’s with some people!

I never claimed to have a life...
...I'm just lazy.

Another thing that I find annoying is when someone knows they are clearly defeated in a debate after another poster makes a valid argument, but continues debating his/her position with falsehoods, unsubstantiated claims, or logical fallacies, sometimes going to the point of reporting an opponent's post rather than just admitting another's position might hold more validity than his/hers.

Also people that make too many posts in a row instead of including all of their thoughts in one post.

But then again, perhaps I'm just helping to relieve @idav's frustration with people not posting enough.

I must be one of your favorites then, eh?

My gears grind when I post a thread to discuss something non-partisan, like
the advantages of 20 degree gear tooth pressure angles vs 14.5 degrees,
& someone commandeers the thread to make a rant against puppy mills.
They're mostly unrelated!

Gears and puppies both have teeth.

One thing that irks me is when people read the title of a thread and answer the question posed in the title in their post while completely disregarding the OP.

I can't help it. It's an occupational prerequisite!
You still owe me an answer from 5 years ago! (Though I can no longer remember the question...) So apparently, your occupation is not yet at risk. ;)

What bugs me the most is how many people will pick and choose which bits of a complete argument they will respond to, and which bits they will pretend were never there. Thus, they get to reshape the entire message in such a way as to tacitly impugn others, while claiming vindication for themselves.

For the record, this is not really very different from taking anything out of context for you your own purposes. And it is, in forums such as this, as fecund as bunnies on Viagra.
