What religion fits?

Hello all. I really hope I am posting in the correct space, and if I am not, that it does not offend too much

I am really struggling with trying to figure out where I belong in this life, and a huge part of that is struggling to figure out which religious denomination I match with, so that I can further my understanding and find "my people".

I feel like I research day and night and there's never a shortage of additional types of religion, so I feel so incredibly lost.

I've come here, because it seems as though there are some very knowledgeable people here, many of whom have dedicated their lives to the understanding of religions, that may be able to point me towards the right direction.

Without further small talk, let's get down to business.

What religion/denomination should I better research if my personal beliefs are as follows:

-belief in the Christian God.
-belief in separation from society (to reject mainstream ideals but not to the point of shunning electricity)
-belief in monogamy, and the sacredness of marriage and family
-belief in man as head of the household, woman as keeper of the household, where the sexes are equal but different
-adult baptism, not infant
-an emphasis on plain and modest dress, where women and girls wear long dresses and men wear long pants and dress shirts, and adornment is discouraged, but not to the point where you can't wear prints or colors.
-a rejection of hair cutting for women and girls, and covering of the head to symbolize submission to God
-a belief in simple living, but not complete rejection of all comforts
-a belief in non-violence, but not to the point that it is a sin to defend yourself or your family
-rejection of vices such as alcohol and pornography
-belief that religion is personal and shouldn't be forced on other people. Sharing it is good, but not by force.
-no shunning of nonbelievers
-a belief in the importance of good works and helping people
-belief in the innocence of children, not that children are born sinful
-on that same not, belief that sin is an act, not a state of being that is impossible to be free of
-salvation is joining God in heaven after death, and requires faith as well as effort in living purely to achieve... is not automatic just because you're baptized or have accepted Christ at one point in life
-is not all about how sinful we are, but focuses more on God's love and purpose for our lives

Any thoughts?

Also, I believe that Jesus is the son of God, but also God, and I don't desire to pray to saints or Mary, and I feel that speaking in tongues is against scripture.

These three are the most problematic for pretty much any denomination. Especially as you've already ruled out the RCC and OC. You might fit Baptist quite well, but not perfectly. Calvinism won't suit you because of Total Depravity doctrine, and nor will Lutheranism because it's still somewhat Catholic in flavour and iirc practises infant baptism.

Why not just be nondenominational?

Or look beyond Christianity, even? (just a suggestion).

Edit: on second thought, the Orthodox Church might be for you.

Pray, follow your heart, and take the good from each religion and leave the bad.

Surrender to God, stay in his hands, pray for his will to be done. Your Religion should be to listen to your heart. That is where the spirit speaks.

Write down what your heart is telling you and often invoke the Holy Spirit to guide your heart.

Also, listen to your dreams and often silence the mind.

God's grace and Spirit be with you!

You know, it's so silly, but I have never even considered that. I'd like to go to church with my family though, so I still need to figure out what fits *best*, even if not perfectly, so I can choose the closest match for church. I very much appreciate your input. What does RCC stand for?

To be honest it sounds a lot like the Amish. I only know about them from a tour in Lancaster PA. They are not like what you see on TV.

They believe in the Christian God
They believe in separation from society and use electricity and even cell phones today
They believe in monogamy and the sacredness of marriage and family
They believe in man as the head of household and woman as keeper but equal
They believe in adult entry into the religion, I'm not sure it is baptism.
They emphasis plain modest dress.
Don't know about hair cutting and the women and men where head cover but not all the time.
They believe in non-violence, not sure to what extent. I know they walk away when threatened, and they have a religious exemption from military service.
Vices definitely bad
They welcome non-believers
Don't know about their beliefs in good works and helping outside the community
Don't know about first sin belief
Don't know about sin being an act
Don't know about salvation


Its worth checking them out if you haven't already. They have 2 big communities. 1 in PA and 1 in OH. I don't know where all the smaller ones are.

After taking only a cursory glance at this; I think the LDS Church is pretty close. It doesn't cover every single one of these but its doctrines align with more than half of your list.

Either that or Bahaiism.

It appears you are searching for something within Christianity although I can not think of a denomination that will tick all the boxes for you. In that case the advice to become non denominational may be best but leaves you without a faith community to have as a spiritual home.

The religion outside of Christianity that seems closest is the Baha'i Faith.

To be honest it sounds a lot like the Amish...

While @bobhikes is very close on his assessment, I think Mennonite might be a better fit. Their beliefs are quite similar to the Amish, with the major difference being the Mennonites are not separatists and tend to blend in with society rather than separating themselves from the world.

You might fit Baptist quite well, but not perfectly...

But seriously, @ST27 , you may wish to look into Baptist beliefs as well, specifically Southern Baptist.

However, don't rush to label your beliefs. Beliefs are a very personal thing and one should not modify one's personal beliefs to squeeze under an umbrella of those with similar but slightly different beliefs. There is absolutely nothing wrong with carrying your own umbrella.

You might consider the Mennonites. They're like the Amish, but they accept some modern electrical comforts like fridges, cars and phones.

Firstly, Christian do not pray to Mary or Saints but to God.
Your beliefs do seem to fit some Christian denominations but not all; if I had to choose, I'd say you was close to Protestant, however you could be like me, Non-Denominational - we do not believe in a certain pathway or Denomination. Have a look at the following article by clicking here.

Perhaps Mennonite or Brethren might be like that
I have good experience with churches that identify with 'the gospel coalition' or 'the Nine marks"
although it will depend on the church and in any case visit and get to know them
