What religion would you be if you weren't following your current one?

I don't fit into a category now. But if I would choose a category it would be Advaita Vedantan Hinduism.

This is excellent. Yes, I know I was thinking that myself, of being "ahead of the game" and choosing a specific lineage to follow exclusively seems a bit unnecessary for me. But for the fun of the thread and I had to a chose a particular religion I think Hinduism would work best as it is universal and reflects a lot of what I already see. I already draw quite a lot from its various insights, but it's challenging because every single thing has some specific new name to learn. I already have too much stuffed in my head. :) A progressive form of Christianity is the easiest as I already know that language quite well, and am able to use it in ways that actually reflect my perspectives as they are now, reclaiming it from those who use it to say things that don't.

Oh! You said much here and indicated again the depth of your understanding. Doesn't it seem like OneGod is--do I say surreptitiously? He can be pretty sneaky, That Divine Fellow/ess!--anyway, doesn't it seem like He's planting Universal Lovers of His into the different traditions for this very purpose? We got Smart_Guy and DJ and the ladies all lifting their heads out of the respective baskets to share their own experiences and discoveries that our traditions are not so different after all. How could they be??!! It is OneGod's Love doing it! They're His expressions for the times and age of His lovers. To find Him at the foundation of these different faiths is like finding those "easter egg" thingies code writers put into their software for you to find if you get the puzzle figured out. Heh heh heh, what's not to like?!

I'm not sure. I'm currently looking into Germanic religion for ancestral and cultural reasons, as well as being interested in West African and African diasporic religions (again, for ancestral and cultural reasons). But I also have an interest in pre-Columbian Mesoamerican religion, specifically Aztec religion. I may just end up going back to Hellenismos because that's the one I've had the longest infatuation with and know the most about. I tend to hit a wall with the others, it seems, because there's simply not as many primary sources to go on, unfortunately. :( The reason why I keep dropping Hellenismos is probably because I'm just lazy and it's very ritual-heavy with high standards of ethics. Lol. Greco-Roman religion is obviously the most well-attested to of the European polytheisms and I do like to have as much information as I can, so I probably should just stick with that.

Implying atheists lack a conscience and the ability to reason.

This will sell only to people who have crippled morales - people who have been crippled by their religion. A 100 years back, (and presently in some deeply religious cultures), being an atheist was/is enough reason for an innocent man to be tortured. (And I always felt like religious people are worshipping Devil or Satan in God's disguise for their lack of morale and irrational sense of logic).

If I write a story about God(s) and prophets , some mythical events /creatures and some rituals and pass it to someone with an intention of raising kids - these kids as they grow up will be praying to this God, will accept these prophets as messengers and will follow these rituals.(The very same thing any believer is doing now- just following a different story). If one is powerful enough to influence the masses, then surely the religion will self-sustain since it will lure in vicious people who are keen to find financial advantage and opportunity for an authority and it will propel forward.

I would say an atheist has a higher conscience and a higher ability to reason. They were/are courageous (to themselves ) to ask questions about their beliefs, their faiths, the illogics of their own religion, and finally turned to an atheist.

A believer is a victim of their religion. An atheist is one who has freed oneself from the grip of their religion (if any).

It was foolish really. I should have been more considerate to atheists. People say admitting one's fault is a virtue. My beliefs do at least ;)
I agree with that virtue and try to follow it. Though I think it's not common where I live at all, I wish it was. If it was universally accepted we would have less wars, less useless fights among people and families.

Agreed. It is unfortunate that even in beliefs that teach and encourage it, it is not taken seriously by everyone. I do, and practice it from time to time, as I did above. I guess practicing it with people could be an incentive for them.
