so what is it that the New Agers and such do what makes you feel they are dangerous?

Many of them hide behind impressive terms and oblique language to justify their own selfishness and base desires. That is religious abuse at its worst. About a third of the Kardecists that I have met are very despicable indeed, switching from a belief that "other people must deal with their own karma" to one of "it takes charity work to evolve spiritualy" at the drop of a hat, and showing a failure at accepting the reality of death in lieu of a true religious motivation.
