I'm with you on this one VOICE OF REASON; but I knew the difference between rap & hip hop because of my kids. Yes let's have some good old country & Western!

Classical, rock, and metal, according to this poll. Usually I'd say Classic Rock, Classical, and Rock. I don't really like any bands that have come out lately. In my car CD case right now is Elton John, Stone Temple Pilots (all time fave), 311, Boston, Rush, and Transsiberian Orchestra's "Beethoven's Last Night." As far as classical composers go, I love Liszt, Chopin, Sibelius, and Stravinsky the most, though I do also like Beethoven and Mozart and Bach of course.

I like all kinds of music. I can't get into rap. I would rather listen to the dial tone on my phone.:)
I have to agree...I just can't stand rap...to me it's like whinning and spitting at the same time...I too would rather listen to a dial tone...other than that I like oldies (this dates me though), classical (because I learned to like it while playing a musical instument in the high school band), Rock as long as it's not the hard rock kind...really have to find the right mood to handle the head banger stuff...I just like music...I really like to hear hymns when they are well sung...they give me goosebumps. My fav. in those is Ave Maria and How great thou art. I could go on and on in this topic but it's time to shut up now...lol:)

I classify the Sons of the Pioneers as precursors to Bob Wills and the style that is (or was) known as Western Swing. Of course, Bob Wills and the Texas Playboys really stepped up Western music and added a whole new twist to it, but, for my money, it started back in the days of Gene Autry, Sons of the Pioneers, etc.

I have a bit of (almost) everything in my music collection...music from just about every decade since the 1930s, plus classical (which of course goes a bit further back than that ;)). I love 60s music, some 70s, I'm an 80s music freak (you can thank lady_lazarus for that, since most of it I heard thru the bedroom wall as a kid), some 90s (I stopped listening to popular music for a few years in there). Not a fan of much of the 'new' music around these days, since much of it is remakes of 80s songs (and I prefer the originals). Can't like hip-hop or techno, but I have some metal and rap. I like older country music, but I've got to be in the mood to listen to it (as with any music really). My two favourite bands are the Beatles and the Bee Gees.

I alternate mostly between alternative rock and rap/hip-hop, but I like most kinds of music, even the stuff that no one else likes, like country. Basically, I like clever lyrics so if I can't understand them or there are none, or they are inane, I'm less likely to care for it. That said, there are some really great instrumentals and some really silly love songs that I love.

Favorite artists are way too many to name, but right now Eminem, Nas, 50 cent, Disturbed, NIN, and Tool are on my playlist. I'm perhaps in not so great a mood after the holidays and for some reason listening to other people's anger always makes me feel less of it.

There was this Primus song I loved, called 'Mr. Knowitall'...one of the verses went:

They call me Mr. Knowitall
I am so eloquent
Perfection is my middle name
And whatever rhymes with eloquent

It's not exactly something you'd want in every song you listen to, but it still makes me laugh whenever I hear it...

Just to show you how old I am, I thought Rap and Hip-Hop were the same thing.
Hip-hop is supposed to be danceable but the terms are pretty much interchangeable nowadays.

You're only as old as you feel. ;)
