What was Leonardo DaVinci's Beliefs?

I was watching a documentary called The Story of Science and it was about DaVinci's drawings of human anatomy and out of curiosity I wanted to know what his spiritual beliefs were. It seems I can not find a clear answer and everything ranges from theist, humanist, non-religious, luciferian, atheist, strongly anti-catholic. Does anyone have some solid evidence of what his beliefs were?

I think that Leonardo was religious, but as his views were somewhat heretical he revealed them in subtle ways through some of his artwork. The book "Secrets of the Holy Family", although not focused primarily on Da Vinci, implies that his artwork shows him as being a devotee of John the Baptist rather than Jesus. It is suggested that his most famous work the Mona Lisa, which was not commissioned by anyone, and which he kept with him, is a portrait of the mother of John the Baptist, Elizabeth.

Interesting! I did read up a little bit that the shroud of turin is supposedly Davinci's face but there's so many mysteries and conspiracies surrounding his life it's hard to decipher what is true and what is not. Thanks for the info!
