What was the American Revolution really about?

Either I've done a bad job of communcating my intended meaning or you're misunderstanding me. My point was that simplisticly pointing to taxation without representation as the main cause of the Revolution has problems. This doesn't mean that it wasn't part of the causes, only that it alone can't explain what happened.
It reminds me of the actual conversation on RF
Revolt: Men are generally taller than women.
Wirey: Sexist pig! You can't say all men are taller than every woman!
Revolt: Drooling hoser! Can't you read, I said "generally".
Wirey: Well, my aunt Squim is taller than my uncle Pierre! So you're wrong, troll!
(Note that Wirey knows I live below the Mackinac Bridge, so it's that kind of troll.)
Revolt: So you're saying all women are taller than all men? Toothless rink rat!
And so it went....

I suspect, like most significant social and political movements and events, it was the result of a variety of complex motivations and interactions reaching a critical mass, and that subsequent attempts at explanation tend to be vastly oversimplified and narrow in their scope, refecting the inevitable agenda and biases of whomever is doing the explaining.

You're saying it's not solely about the British manufacturing technology embargo?

By "a variety of complex motivations and interactions reaching a critical mass" you're referring to the Illuminati, right? 'Cause I am so down with that!

Here is some free advice for everyone, whether they are bakers, doctors, or masons: if you are ever watching television, and you fall asleep, beware of wasting electricity.
