I did manage to see both Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd within the same week. That was pretty wild. Zeppelin just does not come across on record. You have to see them live..

Arrrgg...Of all the concerts that I wanted to see in my life, these were both of them...I bet they rocked...I did get to see a Pink Floyd laser light show but it is not even close to the original...

The Violent Femms

What was you favorite concert?

The Dixie Chicks

What are some stupid things you have done or seen at a concert?

A girl got her neck broken at a Depeche Mode concert by being tossed up in the air on a blanket, trampoline style.

The drugs I did were pretty stupid, in hindsight.

It was either Billy Joel or the Spinners on my college campus....

Fav was probably the never-ending Cher farewell tour...for camp and music

for Rock or actual music it would be the Nylons.

Hehe. Led Zeppelin was simply amazing. As I said, they simply do not come across on record/cd they way they do live. I spent three hours on my tip-toes and that was made possible by the people crushing up against each other. It didn't take all that much effort.

The story I like to share is about the sound itself. During both Kashmir and Stairway to Heaven the sound literally circled the stadium. That added a remarkable quality to the sound. Aside from this the rather quiet, "acoustic" intro to Stairway to Heaven is quite misleading. Live, each note is like a thunderclap. The sound almost hurt. When the drums kicked in mid-way it practically blew ones head off ones shoulders and then finally at the guitar solo part towards the end, Jimmy Page's guitar incinerated anything remaining. When Robert's vocals return at the end it may have well as been the voice of god.

Kashmir also was incredible and began with an impromptu intro by John Bonham that included a lot of cymbals that built in crescendo to the beginning of the Kashmir that appears on Physical Graffiti. I was a bit bummed out that the record version did not start the same way. I honestly feel that that sonic assault has been tatoo'd on my DNA ever since. The first time I saw them, I didn't much care for Robert Plant's vocals after hearing him on record and the radio. I left that first concert a "true" believer.

YmirGf,
I also went to see Led Zepplelin. Never Pink Floyd though. How was Pink Floyd in concert?
I saw Pink Floyd twice. The first time was far, far more than I expected and previewed their new lp at the time, Dark Side of the Moon. What is amusing is that concert began with a variation of "Several species of small furry animals gathered together in a cave and grooving with a pict" that led into an amalgam of the intro to BOTH Obscured by Clouds AND Dark side of the moon. I remember thinking at the time, "Hmmm. That sure sounds like Obscured by Clouds" only for them to launch into Breathe. It was pretty bizarre to hear. In that concert, their rendition of "Careful with the Axe, Eugene" was a knockout. At the crescendo point, the stage was blindingly lit by "arc lights" that seared your vision. Add to that, Roger Waters screaming and the music... and well, it was a somewhat overwhelming.
"Set the controls for the heart of the sun" and "One of these days" were also remarkable.

The second time I saw them they began with "Shine on you crazy diamond", somewhat like the beginning of their much later Live CD "Pulse". That time they played several tracks from "Animals" as well as "Dark Side of the Moon" in its entirety. Their encore number was "Echoes". I am pretty sure that Pink Floyd was actually louder than Led Zeppelin, but it could simply be the difference between the music that made it seem so. Regardless after that incredible week in the summer of 1975 (I think) my ears rang for several days.

In a word... don't miss Floyd or Plant if you ever get the chance to see 'em.

Now if only I could get up the nerve to go see Marilyn Manson.

This is one group I wish I would have seen.
