What will you do at the beginning of 2012?

It was on fire when I laid down on it.
I just rang in the New year with my kids. (Turk is at work) They got to stay up, I poured them juice and I had a wine cooler. We watched a little tv right before midnight and at midnight we toasted with juices and wine cooler, yelled "happy new year", drank, and then gave kisses all around. We then proceeded to have a little dance party in the livingroom until about 12:30, at which time they went to bed all tuckered out.

Sounds absolutely delightful. That's how I spent most of my New Years when my kids were growing up! Except then we'd go out on the front porch and bang pots and pans together and holler into the night air.

Wow, last night was really weird.

About 11:45 - right in the middle of a Cary Grant movie that my husband and I were really getting into - all our electricity suddenly went out. No rain, no wind, no reason we could see - it just went out. Which was a bummer because we were planning on pausing the movie to watch the ball drop and do our usual little New Years kissing and singing Auld Lang Syne as we raise a toast (we'd just opened a bottle of vino).

After about ten minutes of stumbling around in the dark lighting candles, we decided to get in the truck and drive around to see just how far the power outage had spread.

So we were driving around at the stroke of midnight, through a completely dark town, but we did see quite a few people standing around out in their front yards with flashlights or standing at their windows with candles flickering - which was actually pretty cool.

When midnight hit, we pulled over, rolled down the windows so we could hear the revelry (fireworks and some hollering and horn blowing from here and there), and then we kissed and I hung my head out the window and hollered, "YEEEEEEEE-HAWWWWWW!" (You can take the girl out of Louisiana but you can't take Louisiana out of the girl!)

As we drove back home, the lights came back on. But by then we were completely awake so we ended up staying up reading till about 2 am!

I'm going to go to my girlfriend's work, spend her break with her to welcome the New Year, and then come home to drink, smoke and either play Skyrim or watch Netflix.
