There's a sub-forum here calls Interfaith Discussion. Its description says it's "A space for members to discuss (not debate) various religious topics". Interfaith Discussion has another 3 sub-forums including Religions Q&A, Comparative Religion and Seekers Circle.

Definition of discuss:
1: talk about (something) with a person or people.
2: talk or write about (a topic) in detail, taking into account different issues or ideas.

Definition of debate:
[verb] argue about (a subject), especially in a formal manner.

Definition of argue:
give reasons or cite evidence in support of an idea, action, or theory, typically/usually with the aim of persuading others to share one's view.

Definition of prove:
demonstrate the truth or existence of (something) by evidence or argument.

In Interfaith Discussion, you should not debate about religious topics, you should not argue about religious topics, you should not give reasons or cite evidence in support of an idea, action, or theory about religious topics. Interfaith Discussion is a place for you to discuss (not debate) various religious topics. If you want to debate, you should go to sub-forum Religious Debates.

So for example in Interfaith Discussion, if person A says god exists, spiritual realm exists and/or Holy Unicorn exists...etc, he can says so, but he should not give reasons or cite evidence for why he believes those invisible things exist. If you believe person A is irrational in believing in god/spiritual realm/Holy Unicorn...etc, you can say so, but you should not give reasons or cite evidence for why you believe person A is irrational. Interfaith Discussion is not a place for person A nor you, to debate, argue, or give reasons or cite evidence in support of an idea, action, or theory about religious topics. If person A or you want to debate, argue, or give reasons or cite evidence in support of an idea, action, or theory about religious topics, you people should go to sub-forum Religious Debates.

In Interfaith Discussion, in a thread, if a lot of people engage in debate, argue, or give reasons or cite evidence in support of an idea, action, or theory about religious topics, then a moderator might warn people stop debate, or move the thread to sub-forum Religious Debates.

This thread is inspire by after i saw a member creates a thread in Religious Debates complain that in Interfaith Discussion other members debate with him, ask him to prove what he believe about religious topics is true, and one of his thread in Interfaith Discussion was moved into Religious Debates by moderator.

What do you think you can or cannot do in Interfaith Discussion?

(I might not be participate in this discussion, so please feel free to discuss/debate with other people here.)

Interfaith discussion is discussion about religious or spiritual topics across different religions and spiritual paths. It's a place where practitioners of religious teachings can express their personal understanding of the topic in discussion, and it is a place to learn what others believe.
Without being a jerk one listen and learn and did not directly critique the belief of others. Asking questions are the good way to discuss, telling someone they do hold a false belief or their God does not exist, is not ok in discussions

Is this the official policy of the website, then? If so, is interfaith discussion simply a place for stating one's beliefs? You can't actually discuss anything, just state your beliefs and read about what beliefs other people hold? I can stick to that. Even though it seems awfully boring, I can recognize that there should be a space for simple exposition.

Edit: Based on the poll results, it seems like there is a lot of confusion about this. So it's good you are clarifying.

You can discuss things in the interfaith discussion forum with many faith practitioners, but not debate them. Debate includes attacking another's views, or attempting to "prove them wrong" for example.

It's a place to share and discuss ideas.

Religious debates subforum is for debating

Forum rules explains this:

10. Debating in Non-debate Forums or Posting in DIR/ONLY Forums
Religious forums is structured to provide spaces for many different kinds of conversations. Different kinds of conversations belong in different areas of the forum:

1) Debates should be kept to the debate areas of the forums, including Religious Debates, General Debates, and Political Debates. Debating anywhere other than these forums may result in moderation. Same Faith Debates is governed by special rules described here. Only members of the specified groups(s) can participate in these threads.

2) All DIR (Discuss Individual Religions) forums are for the use of members who identify with those groups or practices. Debating is not permitted in DIRs; debates between members of specified groups should be posted in Same Faith Debates. A member may select up to a maximum of three (3) DIRs with which they identify. A member may change their selection of DIRs at any time, but the total number of DIRs selected must never exceed three (3). Members who do not identify with a DIR group may not post in that DIR section; we recommend creating a thread in the Religions Q&A instead where there is more freedom to comment. DIR forums are not to be used as a cover to bash others outside of the DIR group.

3) The Political World forum has several "only" subforums that are for the use of members who identify with those political leanings. Members who do not identify with those political leanings are not allowed to post there. "Only" subforums are not to be used as a cover to bash others outside of the "Only" group

Hi..... :)
I haven't got a clue.
For the first time in yonks I have just posted in an interfaith thread because it is started by a staff member who actually wrote that anybody could post in it.

Otherwise........... I keep far far away from these. :)

I don't think some moderation is necessarily a problem. I trust a moderator just would direct or explain if there is a problem. As far as providing an article to aid in a discussion I see nothing wrong with that. I would hope some correction by moderators is welcomed by members.
