Or if you go to a restaurant you can order a Filet Mignon. Usually Americans do not use the French versions of words as often as British or Aussies do, but this is an exception. We are also more likely to call a deboned piece of fish as a filet rather than a fillet. The t is silent in filet. And to me it does seem to be an abuse of the term when one goes to McDonalds and gets a Filet-O-Fish sandwich.

The biggest abuse of the French language in America is "entrée". Everywhere else I've been in the world it means a small dish before the main meal except in America where it means the main dish. It translates as entrance in English so I don't get it

A fish sandwich that I had for lunch and will a bit later have for dinner. I'll probably have a small salad with it.

I plan a cold seafood supper. I'm going to experiment a little with a deli-bought seafood salad by adding crab meat and fill miniture bell peppers. I'll also have shrimp with cocktail sauce.
