What's Happening?

Several things come to mind for me. The cost of living in California is absurd. Gas in particular is, last I checked, about $2.00 more per gallon here than the national average. I've watched the price of groceries and rent also go steadily up in recent years.

Homelessness is the other major issue that confronts me in my daily life. Tents line the sidewalks. Homeless people, either psychotic or high or both, wander into traffic, panhandle, and create scenes in public. The situation has become unsustainable and local politicians mostly point the finger at others to solve the crisis. Truly sad and frustrating to watch.

Do you feel the increase of homeless folks has been worsened as prices soar? Why do you think gas is so much higher in Cali?

What is happening, well in a nutshell, the old world order is rolling up, and a new world order is rolling out in its stead.

Our materialism has raped the planet and the natural order has been greatly unbalanced, the scales will tip. Humanity is learning war and predudices have no place in our modern world, a world where justice prevails.

IMHO, the Message of Baha’u’llah, the plan that God gave us, is unfolding.

Things will get a lot worse before they get better.

All the best, much love and peace to you.

P/S I see Australa will suffer great financial difficulties as well, most likely it will be global, but Australia known as the 'lucky country', has created a greedy country.

Regards Tony

In your personal life, what changes have affected you or loved ones the most?

Hmmm... Not much has impacted me. The food and gas prices are ridiculous for sure. I've got a friend worried he won't be able to afford his rent soon (they keep raising his rate). Climate here has certainly shifted too. Summers are much hotter and drier. And the last 3 winters have been rather wet, and colder then usual. We're almost flooding out the river near us again.

I'm glad you've been able to keep things stable. Housing is going up here, too. My husband was talking about selling the house because the value has doubled, but I kept trying to explain its not that our house is so great, its that the housing market is through the roof(no pun intended). He wouldn't believe me until I looked up our old house, which is in worse condition now, and saw that it had more than doubled in price as well.

I am in MS, the birthplace of Elvis Presley, Oprah Winfrey and James Earl Jones. Here the rain falls more randomly than it does in NC, because rain here does not wait until 5pm to fall. Our weather is strange, but its got nothing on yours.

Oops, my mistake. I don't know why I was thinking NC...

Unrelated, but it reminded me, I was hunting out MS recipes today...

Yes, homelessness and price increases have occurred at about the same time.

In California we have additional taxes and regulations on gas, both in production and sale. That makes it much more expensive.

I suppose you are looking for old recipes. Modern recipes will likely be recipes from the internet.

Any, really. Old or modern. I managed to find a bean recipe. Its in the process of preparing right now.

I do have to tweak things, both for cost and vegetarianism, but exploratory cooking is probably my favorite hobby.

You are leaving out a lot of the good positive things. Also I don't think global economics is going away permanently. It will be missed just as Nebuchadnezzar is missed when he temporarily goes insane. The countries will decide they want globalization back with safe shipping lanes etc. It will be Ok.

I see they are part of a new world order, anything that is an attempt at global security and reconciliation is a positive move.

That is the way it unfolds IMHO, the old is replaced with the new.

I remember when brexit started, my wife and were obeserving and offering, that any attempt at dividing an effort that was made for unity, will fail. Instead of brexit mentalities where nations go it alone, the world needs to embrace a global economic outlook and global cooperation at all levels of human affairs.

A good starter would be introducing a world language.

We live remote, have one income. The cost of living, housing and energy is out of control, and as you have stated, this will bring about change.

In the long run Britain's exit from the EU is just part of a negotiation. There are some concerns, and you can't negotiate if you aren't willing to walk away. You know banks will continue to push for unity again. The re-connectors will keep pushing to re-connect. In a way its like how molecules have different kinds of bonds. Sometimes they have very hard and inflexible ones, and sometimes they have looser ones that combine attractive and repellent forces.

What's happening?

The weather is screwy. The end of October we should have been dressed in winter clothing. Instead it was in the high 20s (over 80f), tee shirt weather and sitting outside in cafes and restaurants until 2 days ago when the temperature dropped to a high of 13c (55f). The plants don't know what's happening, still in full bloom and budding for another batch of flowers. Tonight we had fresh homegrown strawberries for desert, we've had them at the beginning of October before but never this late in the year. 5he last couple of days temperature has dropped 15 degrees and we've seen the return of normal weather for the time of year. Poor plants are so confused.

Russia has forced price hikes on oil which is roughly €2 per litre for gas, that equates to $5.80 per us gallon. Thought the price is dropping from €2.30 per litre at its highest. Heating oil (red diesel) has doubled since the war started.
The knock on effect is that prices at supermarkets and stores are rising rapidly.

And shortages too, corn based products are close on impossible to find, it seems most European corn was grown in the Ukraine, Russia has stolen the corn by the shipload. There are gaps in the shelves, particularly in the cereal isle.

Oh and mustard. Can't blame Russia for that, most mustard used in France comes from Canada and they've had a bad mustard season.

Strawberries in the fall! I don't think I've ever seen them here past summer. That's crazy. Its been abnormally warm here, too, but not to the extent you're experiencing.

I went for a swim yesterday morning, in the men’s pond on Hampstead Heath. The water temperature was 12.5 Celsius, unprecedented for November. It doesn’t feel like winter at all in London, apart from the light. We had a few days in August when the air was so hot, lots of people found it hard to breath.

Our monthly fuel bill trebled in a year. Everything is more expensive, very few people have had a proper pay rise hence a wave of strikes in those work places where Trade Unions still have influence. The U.K. is in a bizarre position whereby wages are stagnant, yet there is a labour shortage due to Brexit dissuading working visitors arriving from Europe. The housing market is completely broken, that doesn’t affect me directly but it has affected my son, and my nieces and nephews.

I overheard two well spoken, middle class women talking on a bus the other day. One said to the other “The country is ruined.” Hard to disagree.
