What's In A Name

cardero

Where did you get your name? Were you named after someone? Do you know what your name means and do you feel it resembles/represents you well? These questions can also apply to your last name as well.

Robtex your name means Famed; bright; shining which I think resembles you. It also had a second definition of "He who may be called Bob."

Soultype01 you are CORRECT Stephen means Crown; wreath. In the bible Stephen was the first Christian martyr.

My mother named me Brandy Mill Jackson.

Although the meaning of Brandy is an amber colored liquor, My mother named me after the song Brandy by Looking Glass.

My middle name of Mill is the shortened version of my Great-Grandmother's name of Mildred. (She is the person that my mother says I get my witchcraft curiosity from because according to my mother, she could perform witchcraft to help people around her)

My last name is from My biological father, who left my mom when I was 9 months old. According to my Aunt on his side of the family, we are of some Dutch and British descent. I can not remember the other nationality we are.

Actually that question has hit a raw nerve in me.
I was baptized 'Michel Jean Georges Hiernaux' - that is what appears on my Belgian Congo certificate. O.K. whilst in the Congo, I was 'Michel'; at the age of eleven, my parents and I stayed in Belgium for a year or so.
We then came to England, and to my horror, my parents started calling me 'Michael'; I then became 'dual personality'; Michael at home and Michel at school.
The same happened when I married; although my wife and her family all called me 'Michel', my parents insisted on 'Michael'. Whilst I worked, I was Michel.
One day, not long after we married, my wife insisted that I be called Michael because when people asked her the name of her husband, and she said 'Michel', people looked surprised and said ooooh but thats a girls name!!!!!!!!!!!
So here I am now, Michael to all the neighbours who are Ignorant enough not to ralize that there is a 'male' Michel, Marie calls me Michael, her mother calls me Michel, and At R.F I made damned sure I put my name down as Michel.

I think the worst aspect of all this is the feeling that I had been given a name, by my parents, not as an Identity, but as a ' flag of convenience', to be changed and messed around with to suit everyone else's needs but my own. I do not bear a grudge with my parents; I used to, but learned to accept what they had done was from thoughtlessness rather than out of any Malice.
However, I still feel 'raw' inside because of it.
In fact, sitting here & typing this has made me go on the verge of being tearfull. What a prat I am.
A name, I think, should be given to a child as a 'gift' and yes, I do believe that the character does, to some extent , reflect one's name.
The really sad part of it all, is that Numerologically, 'MICHEL' is a 'fortunate' number for me, whilst 'MICHAEL' is a most unfortunate one; stranger still is the fact that I've felt 'dogged' whilst Michael; Michel IS ME.

I really am sorry to put all this down; it might have been better to avoid the subject altogeather - but I didnt.

Michel:eek:

Was i named after someone? Yes, a distant relative, uncle of my my mom's mother.

My name, Alexander, means "defender of man". Never been in the military so it can't be right. I did however stand up for linwood in his thread so maybe it does mean what it means! :)

My middle name is Soule. We are descendants of George Soule who came over on the Mayflower. It's pronounced like Soule Steel ( soolay). I like to think my middle name is "soul." My first name is Karron which is variant of Katherine and means "pure."

Thomas......I was always told I was named after a saint. Knowing myself I would assume that the name means something like "dances with Latinas" :biglaugh:

Patrick means Patrician, noble. Romans society was divided into plebeians: (commoners) and patricians: (aristocrats). Saint Patrick - patron saint of Ireland.

Cardero is Spanish for "black kettle". So I am a noble black kettle. Many people confuse Cardero for Cordero. I was named after our local Catholic priest.

"Margaret" can mean either 'pearl' or 'daisy'. (Daisy being my favorite flower, hehee!) "Ann" means 'grace' or 'favor'. "Lawrence" means 'crowned with laurels'.

On my Columbian Birth Certificate, I am Pedro Juan Murray

On my American certificate I am Pater Jan Murray.

All of my other records have me as Peter Jan Murray.

Jan is after my comedic Great Uncle "Jan Murray" (we have never met)

Pater is after a Great, Great Gransfather who was a Captain for the Dutch Merchant Marine. We have a portrait of him and I look rediculously like him. He traded in slaves for the new world.

I have also been called, "Nature Boy", "Vise Grips", "Murph the Surf", "Pistol Pete Murrayovich", "Peaches", "Pietrof", "Fla-Bob Pete", "NetDoc", "Doc", "Smilie", as well as others. BUT of all the names that I have been called, I like "Dad" the best! :D

BTW, NetDoc comes from my business entity, NetDoc Inc. "The Doctor for you Network is "in""

Yeah... he married a Murray and took her name, or something like that. Anyway, my Dad and him were pals and so I got the name.
