Before there was a concept of a one god, almost every culture believed in many gods. But religion isn't about proof. That is where you are coming at this all wrong. You show up and start trying to prove that your religion is true, except that you cannot, because you cannot prove faith. Maybe you can see all of the universe and all of the actions of this world summed up in the personality of a single god; but pagans and heathens view the world as being filled with many gods and spirits. Many gods to watch over the many aspects of life, to govern what is in their dominion. But there is no proof. There is no proof except experience. Like you have a relationship with one god, I have a relationship with many gods. It is offensive to have people coming around and saying that there is only one god and that it's their god and everyone elses gods are false. That is why I have no love for the mono-deities and why I am so often frustrated with their followers.

But you are Muslim. One god is enough for you. That is fine by me. Stick to your one god and we shall stick to our many and so long as we live honorably and with courage, we will all be blessed.

you're right that those loons who say "Our diety is the one and the only one" just because they were raised to beleive in such a faith really **** us all off,it's not just because someone was raised to beleive in a certain faith that it comes to be the "Greatest",all of that is bull****,i told you that people who are calling themselves moslems aren't,they are just bragging and boasting and think they're better than others just because their religion contains great teachings,i hope to hear from you soon

Well, there was a time in life when I believed in no gods (I was raised Christian, but the whole Christian worldview felt... terribly wrong), but I was very unfulfilled. Then I decided that it was just as reasonable to believe in all the gods, as it was to believe in none. So that's where I began my pagan/heathen journey. I began with the assumption that all the gods are real and I began to explore them. I prayed to different gods, studied all the religions, tried different rituals... nothing really worked. I tried Wicca. I feel in love with Hinduism and Native American Spirituality, but they didn't quite fit with me. Then, I finally found the native religion of European/Germanic folk. I felt the call of my ancestors and of the gods to return to this religion that had long since been overtaken by Christianity. Thankfully the Christians kept most of our great traditions (mainly Easter and Christian, or "Yule"). So even though my family is Christian, I can still celebrate my families religion with them; I just honor different gods. I have dedicated my life to living according to the old heathen worldview.

If you believe your god is the only god, then tell me, am I wrong for worshiping the gods of my ancestors? Am I wrong for feeling their presence and their love? Am I wrong for honoring them in ritual and in prayer? Am I wrong to be Asatruar (True to the Northern Gods)?

I've never seen anybody yet who was able to prove that there is even one God! Let's start by tackling that one first!

Mujahid, I only suggested you come to this area because I thought that we could have a civil discussion about what we pagans believe. Unfortunately, this doesn't seem to be an option.

Imagine going into someone's house and saying "Your house may seem to be good to you, but you are wrong. My house is the only true house. You should come over to my house, so you can see how wrong you are about your house. Then, you should stay in my house." It would be offensive and people would not want to go to your house. Ever. Now, replace 'house' with 'religion' or 'path'. A person's religion is usually even more integral to their spirit than their house.

Most members of my faith do not acknowlege a Satan, and calling it a 'European fantasy' is baseless, completely ignoring the many people who deal in African or First Nation religions. I am a servant of no god and I kneel before none. The gods are my friends and I stand proud before them, as I should. If you can't respect that, get out of my house.

Absolutely agree, we believe what we believe because it resonates within us, but no one has any real idea if that what they believe in is real or not. If you think differently, I call it self-delusion.

Who said there was any proof? I hold the beliefs I do simply because of my own personal gnosis and subjective experiences.

Yep, I can see that it is silly to try and prove a god's existence, but for people who do indeed believe that deities are there, there has to be some personal proof, or individual experience that would be the basis of that belief. What kind of experiences would those be?

At the risk of sounding cheeky.....they are personal. And while they are very meaningful for me, I seriously doubt anyone else would find they have the same impact for them. So bantering them about really isn't something I do.

Now I am an agnostic and heres my view on god taken from my journal and posted under my old name ALifeTimeToWait... that they discontinued sad day :( , but I will also give you the reasons my mother believes and other family members believe.

I have seen many comments and why God exists to many of you and many of you seem to be trying to explain the unexplainable. Dont get me wrong i believe in god and i am not trying to debate, but my understanding is a little off the beaten trail. As i have searched through the mountains and valleys of my mind and our world, i have realized a couple of humble truths. Nothing can come from nothing and that everything is intertwinded in a cosmic brilliance and harmony. I believe that god is every bit of star dust, every atom, every twinkle in a childs eye. I also believe that the reason that many of the great traditions, i.e. the judo-christian view of God the all powerful and all knowing, has equated us to being made in the image of God is because we know the truth, that we have found the most profound way of messing up this balance, this cycle. Making us the closest thing to Godly out there. We dont realize how interconnected we are and are selfish in our quest to understand, because we are scared.

My mother was going into early labor and the doctor made an exam and was trying to stop the labor. He said that my lungs weren't developed enough and if I was born I would die. My mom was in a horrible situation and what do you do you pray if your a Christian. She heard steps coming down the hall like thunder and saw a shining light and voice that said "Do not be afraid I am with you." Next I was born with fluid in my lungs and I wasn't suppose to make it. She got on the phone with every church she had ever been to set up prayer groups nation wide to pray for me and I miraculously made it through. Third my cousin suffers from a degenerative lung disorder called Cystic Fibrosis he was on a waiting list for new lungs. Moments after he told my aunt he wasn't going to make it she prayed and prayed and prayed and behold a call came and the lungs were implanted that day. Amazing things happen in a subjective sense sometimes a deeper impact is made that makes you have faith beyond a reasonable doubt.

love B.C. Smith
