What's the purpose behind believing in something that cannot be proven true?

My answer is: No profit/benefit.
Hence, nobody believe something that cannot be proven to be true.

Actually, this is a very good question that often arise in the mind of an atheists. A very good question because.. Often, atheists get lost into thinkings finding answer to this question.

I really like this question because there's certainly something to be gained by NOT believing in claims until any evidence supports that belief.

BUT, what's the purpose behind believing in something that cannot be proven to be true? People unnecessarily dishonor theists.

Its not an atheist question. Its more general. By believing in something unproven you can:
  • start a business
  • make a friend
  • rear a child

Friend, there's a big difference between "Trapper" and a "Theist"

YOU are telling about a "Trapper"
Whereas, am asking about a "Theist"

Well, I am not a atheist in the broad sense, yet I believe in regards to my religious beliefs in something I can't prove.
So:
I am not an atheist.
I am religious.
I don't believe in absolute proof or truth in regards to metaphysical/ontological beliefs as connected to beliefs about the real reality.

So your model is not true and without proof.

Hope. Sometimes hope keeps us going when nothing else can.

Error is.. that you think you believe in a belief.
Whereas, the truth is that you believe in something which is already a believe because they haven't yet proven to be true. Which further ALSO means that you doubt the religion that you believe in.

And what your religion gains by believing in something that cannot be proven to be true. You can better figure this out by yourself.

Yeah, you can judge me based on your beliefs, but that only means that you use your beliefs. I have other beliefs than yours and mine work for me no matter how much they don't work for you.

What is true?

Is there any scientific theory that has been proven to be absolutely factual and no longer remains only a theory?

And theories by definition, are the unproven hypothesis, suppositions, and opinions of those scientists, who are prone to change their minds, as more data is discovered in this boundless cosmos, of which our earth is but a speck, in a little tiny solar system, within a galaxy, which is some 100,000 light years from one side to the other, which Galaxy is but one of billions of Galaxies within our boundless cosmos, leaving our scientists with a lot, lot, lot, lot, more information to gather before they can say that anything is certain, and like I have said, those scientists are prone to change their mind as more data is discovered, leaving those who believed by faith alone, the original theory of those particular scientists, standing out on a shaky limb.

Which of the many, many scientific theories as to the creation of our particular universe do you believe is absolutely true.
