Whats with modern art?

Well having worked with "the common man" and tried showing them "art", they stopped and litrally said "please, no more, it hurts my brain".

I would say that there are some things that would affect them in an artful way. Participation in art isn't a science or intellectual puzzle (not always, anyway), it is an experience that speaks to our emotions and curiosity.

I'm sure there are forms of art those folks do understand.

What are these things you call emotions?

I don't get it, it dosn't seem like art to me, well I saw one piece (that was a woman pulling a poem out of her vagina and reading it) that stuck a bit of a nerve with me, but the rest is just so boring.
What ever happened to the style of the renissiance?
What ever happened to Gothic architecture?
We should employ these again in my oppinion.

There's a lot of crap in modern art, but there was a lot of crap in art during the Middle Ages and the Renaissance, too. And just as there was a lot of great art then, there's a lot of great art now.

As for Gothic architecture, I think the Sagrada Familia's re-interpretation of it is superior to the original style.

Gaudi's style I appreciate; it's not like the modern art in my grandparent's house in which the pictures usually depict random shapes and faces and seem to have no meaning. Gaudi had good taste and a sense of moderation.

The problem IMO is modern art like this:

It's just stupid and terrible.

I admit that not too long ago I would have agreed with you... but now I'm curious as to what the artist has to say about it.. There are some pieces of modern art that I just plain didn't get and hated, but after taking an Art History class, I was able to appreciate some works and understand them a little better.

I am sorry but I find it hard to appreciate this kind of stuff to understand and appreciate at all. I also dislike the style.

I like the whimsical touch of adding cranes to the building. They add interesting rhythmic devices which
seemed to counterpoint the surrealism of the underlying metaphor of the humanity...er....Vogonity.

Are we limiting this to just visual art?

What ever happened to the style of the renissiance?

It died with the time and mindset.

What ever happened to Gothic architecture?

It died with the Goth. By why are complaining that no artist wants to do it?

We should employ these again in my oppinion.

Then buy art from people who make what you like.

I don't really know much about visual art, but that thing. I like that thing. I don't know what it is but it looks like it's crumbling and it's awesome and damn.

Modern art is just usually very hideous and illogical.

Strangely enough, 'Classical' European art really centers into a false sense of beauty based the human physique. I don't understand what's illogical about finding aesthetic beauty in other things, regardless how abstract or unfamiliar it may be.

That and Renaissance photography and video arts were incredibly lacking.

:D I don't know what RF ever did without you.

Enjoy the cranes while you can; the church is expected to be finished in another 16 years.
