The Thing with Kurt Russell from 1982 or the remake?

Kurt Russell. The newer one isn't "John Carpenter's...," and to be technical it's a prequel rather than a remake. I liked it OK enough, but the fact that they went with crappy CGI instead of practical effects was deeply disappointing.

Fun fact: the practical effects team that was hired for The Thing (2011) got fired basically when they decided to go CGI instead of practical effects (not because of the quality of their work, but because of cost decisions or whatever stupid decision they made).

So the practical effects team took some of their materials and ideas and went on to make their own movie, Harbinger Down (2015), which has Lance Henriksen (Bishop from Aliens). Unfortunately it was written by a special effects team and not by an actual writer, and that shows, but the effects are great and reminiscent of The Thing!

The only use I found for sardines were they made good bait for traps(raccoon, fox and mink)
