What's your ism?

I put pantheism and one not listed for non-theism. Buddhism is kind of unique in it's view of the gods. Pantheism would refer to the idea that all things have the Buddha-nature and are connected. Non-theism in regard to the traditional gods because, the Buddha taught they do exist, but they are not all powerful, creators, holder's of destiny, etc. They are trapped in samsara (the cycle of life, death, and rebirth, being held by karma) just like we are.

Panentheist (B.G. 10.42 "Supporting this mighty universe with but one single fragment of Myself, I remain unchanged and transcendent."), monotheist, qualified henotheist. The qualification in my henotheism is that the other deities are but manifestations or aspects of the one God (Vishnu/Krishna in my case).

I think that happens quite a bit, which is why some of the debates go the way they do here. There's no defining of terms before the debate starts, so usually it just ends up in an argument.

Not so much for me.

Since I believe in a single deity, I believe that we are all talking the same one. We just have different ways of perceiving it.

I'm fine with there being different ways of reaching God. The only time I really have an issue is when someone tells me that I have to believe a specific thing, which happens far too often.

Not very often with theists, really. Atheists, it depends upon the type of atheist. Some types of atheists, about the same as your average theists.

Anti-theists, however, generally more: usually telling me what I believe, or not debating with me because of it.

I think isms are sometimes quite useful for debating, to be honest, even if they're imperfect and don't capture everything.

I agree with this. There are those few who do seem to have this automatic presumption that to "believe" it means to believe in "this" regardless of the actual type of belief the person holds. I know I've gone into a debate before where this type of attitude is displayed and just posted with the purpose to make clear that there was stereotyping going on and not everyone believed in the same god concept. Sometimes it's no wonder there's so much disagreement.

Sometime it stops a debate even before one can start. Everyone just wants to pick on monotheists and people are like "I'm not talking about your type of ism".

I picked agnosticism, atheism, deism, and panentheism. These are the possibilities I toy with, plus mysticism. I am an atheist though, and will likely remain so.

I love the fact that so many different religious expressions can be found here. It makes for quite interesting debates, and also gives an opportunity to really learn about different ideas. As far as where I live, it's predominantly Christian, with little pockets of other religions here and there. Mostly monotheists, with a little polytheist and atheist mixed in.

Same here. My beloved Stumptown was slightly more diverse, and a damn sight more tolerant, but still soundly dominated by monotheism.
