What's Your Specialty

I would like to know what everyone's specialty.

Do you have a degree? Or are you currently studying towards one and do you have a specific part of that field that you are predominately interested in?

Do you have a hobby which you are knowledgeable about.

I'll go first:

I am currently doing a Bachelor of Applied Social Sciences. This is predominately psychology but with a focus on therapy/counselling side of it. It also includes sociology and some human resources type of modules.

My passions within psychology are how alternate states of mind are achieved and body language/non-verbal communication.

I also have a passion for juggling and fire spinning, but due to some coordination issues i have had from birth i really suck at them.

Hi Tar,

Ewwww Poli Science sounds like a snooze fest lol you probably think the same about psychology.

What made you decide to start studying? (im guessing you havent been studying for 15 years as well)

No, I go to school a night (I have a family I work to support), and have been at it for a little over 5 years now. Barring any catastrophes, I'll graduate this December.

I actually started out as an Environmental Management major because of the job outlook. It's a growing field which typically pays well above average where I'm at.

I had to take a Public Policy course fairly yearly on, and by the end of the course I had decided I found PS much more interesting than Environmental Management.

As for why I started to study in the first place, the job I have now is great for young guys, but most of the older veterans are in rough shape physically. I want to have an education to bolster my background when I finally decide I'm too old to do this anymore.

I have just last year completed a Bachelor of Adult and Vocational Education.

I am an Aircraft Maintenance Engineer (Technician) by trade and combining the two I am currently working in Training Development designing training packages for new aircraft types.

I am an Aspie and have an intense interest in religious beliefs which is why I am here on this forum and others like it. I am also intensely interested in aircraft.

My other hobbies include home brewing beer and playing video games (PS3 and PSP).

I also used to surf a lot but for the last two years I haven't been able to find the time in between working full-time, studying part-time and raising 2yo triplet boys.

My specialties are: volunteer curmudgeon, left-wing wiseguy, environmentalist and animal-rights supporter.

To pay the rent, though, I rely on some modest skill in critical-care medicine.

This was posted somewhere else on the forums but i felt it was topical.

Professionally, I'm a civil engineer.

In terms of hobbies, I'm getting decent in iaido, the best martial art that nobody's ever heard of. I'm currently ikkyu (the equivalent of brown belt in other disciplines, though we don't wear badges of rank).

I also have a passion for juggling and fire spinning, but due to some coordination issues i have had from birth i really suck at them.
Heh... fire spinning sounds like the sort of thing someone shouldn't want to do if he sucks at it. :D
