When a sitting president essentially states that half the country is "garbage".

I think we need a Congressional investigation as to whether that is a real image or a photo-shopped image.

Maybe Getty images and the photographer should sue, I certainly didn't believe it the first time I saw it. :(

That was a separate incident.

How cute you just tried to call me ignorant and tell me my memory sucks. Ooopsy.
I'll accept your apology any time.
I have no problem with Trump’s assessment of the Border.

I do have a problem when sitting elected leaders decide to call their own citizenry garbage.

You are ignorant because you cannot even put foreword a decent comparison.

That wasn't Trump's assessment of the border. It was his assessment of America.

Sorry you weren't up to the task of countering it. Instead you'd rather cop out and call me ignorant without showing why or how. LOL

You ignore Trump's assessment of like a garbage can, compared to Biden's direct statement that Trump supporters are garbage.

Sorry you're not up to the task of telling the truth as it stands.

I'm desperately trying to ignore the craziness. Less than a week to go, I keep reminding myself. Turn off the TV I say or switch to a movie.

For the record, I support Harris totally, and am frightened to death of another Trump Presidency. But ....

For heaven's sake guys, listen to yourselves. One day we will have to all live together in what is left of this country. Somehow we will have to get along. I just hope we won't come to our senses in the same way as an alcoholic does when he wakes up one morning in the gutter, covered in vomit, urine soaked pants, with a splitting headache, and contemplating the ruin of his life.

Or, we can just carry on calling each other "garbage".

I suppose the division is calculated, but that it my conspiracy and paranoia oriented mind thinking…

God if I judged people based off of their politics I wouldn’t be friendly with my own family. Yet it seems that people can’t get along with someone who votes differently…

Some may view this as cathartic, though they may not want to admit it. But to log in every day to yibber yabber the same talking points over the course of days/weeks/months or longer to the same people with ever increasing hostility… it is ultimately not healthy or cathartic or necessary (in my opinion).

Perhaps this has come about because many expect more from their politicians - as to behaving like one:

Does Donald Trump speak differently from other modern U.S. presidents? A new study in PNAS Nexus suggests he does. By applying machine learning to a vast array of speeches — from debates to campaign rallies and State of the Union addresses — the team found that Trump’s rhetoric is distinguished by short, direct sentences and a notably antagonistic tone, especially toward opponents. The study’s AI-driven analysis highlights Trump’s unique style, setting him apart from other presidents, both Republican and Democratic.

Keep promoting the hatred because it's what the modern day Democrats stand for to which anybody who doesn't see and agree with the hive mind is clearly the enemy.
All you people do is project (I see that @SkepticThinker beat me to it again. Also, @Subduction Zone).

Those are Trump's words about anybody who disagrees with HIM - "the enemy within." And it's MAGA with the hive mentality. Look at all of the spineless Republicans who initially condemned Trump then endorsed his candidacy anyway. That's what hives do.

It's called accusation in a mirror. From https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Accusation_in_a_mirror#:~:text=Accusation in a mirror is a false claim that accuses,d'Expansion et de Recrutement.

"Accusation in a mirror (AiM) (also called mirror politics, mirror propaganda, mirror image propaganda, or a mirror argument) is a technique often used in the context of hate speech incitement, where one falsely attributes one's own motives and/or intentions to one's adversaries."

Good examples are claims that the Democrats are trying to rig the election or that they are fascists or undemocratic, or that BLM incited the violence that they were reacting to, or that they use AI deceitfully.
It was just a bad joke and the people, obviously Trump supporters at Madison Square Garden, quickly let him know that it was a bad joke right then and there. It really should have been the end of it, but of course , you know how the left quickly sunk the fangs into that juicy morsel of political meat.
Of course the Democrats are going to make political hay out of Trump's October Surprise (Colbert was funny last night when he said that you're supposed to October Surprise the other side, not yourself).

I've learned since writing a post on this thread yesterday that there a lot of Puerto Ricans in states other than New York:

According to this interactive map of Puerto Ricans by state, the Puerto Rican population of the seven toss-up states is

AZ - 64.7 K
NV - No data
WI - 61.4 K
MI - 43.3 K
PA - 472.2 K
NC - 115.4 K
GA - 100.9 K

These states were very evenly divided prior to that comment. What fraction of those people who were either going to vote for Trump or who mildly preferred Harris but weren't motivated enough to vote just changed their minds this week to either not bother voting for Trump or to get out and place that vote for Harris - maybe that day?
Did Trump say Puerto Rico was garbage?
He didn't need to. He'll take the heat for it anyway, because remember, Trump didn't try to distance himself from the comment until he was made to understand how harmful it was to his campaign and also to down ticket Republicans.

How about that trash truck photo op? He needs to be in the back of the vehicle where the trash goes if he wants to represent that it was MAGA that was called trash.

By sitting in the cab, Trump is representing that he is the trashman with vest and all. His intention was to draw attention to Biden's comment, but he's the one collecting the trash, and he's the one known as the xenophobe and who uses words like vermin and poisoning our blood, so what people see is Trump the elitist, white supremacist bigot collecting the trash - maybe to deport it.
Trump never called Puerto Ricans garbage. He said he does not agree with that comedian.
Too late and not credible. Why you still believe him is a mystery.
Calling terrible criminals vermin or other names is justified.
OK. The convicted felon, adjudicated sexual predator, business fraudster, and insurrectionist who stole state secrets - Trump - is vermin.

Can you support this claim?
Trump's statement on October 4 identifying that immigrants crossing our southern borders are responsible for 13,000 murders. After that it's just a matter compare how many murders have been committed in the United states and some simple math.

Now are you going to be honest enough to answer the question or are you just going to deny and distract?

I noticed that in a recent video. His natural whiter flesh was showing through on his nose. It made him look as if he had a strange skin disease.

Hmm, maybe he has vitiligo. That is what happened to Michael Jackson and why he went from black to "what the heck is that skin color". Vitiligo is when one loses the ability to make melanin in certain areas of one's skin. On black people it can be extremely noticeable because they will have raggedy patches of white than white skin mixed in with their normal dark brown tones. It can make one very self conscious. Michael would use heavy makeup that made his skin all one color half way in between the two.

Trump is vain enough that he would cover up such a minor defect. I used to tan very readily, but I was about 23 when vitiligo struck me. Besides the insides of my wrists on certain areas of my fingers the most obvious area if I went shirtless was a big old white spot on my sternum. If I stayed out of the Sun my most obvious example of it was one that I never saw: A white spot that also affect my hair on the back of my head It always looked as if I had a splotch of white paint there.

Anyway since Trump likes golf and is outside quite often he would also get tan in some aeras and have unattractive white splotches elsewhere if he had vitiligo. To show you what it can look like here is a young black lady with vitiligo:

And here is a white person that is close to Trump's natural color with the condition, mine is not this bad, though I used to tan darker:

Obviously you never watched it.
There were indeed a parade of hate-mongering speeches.

I'd say less than half the crowd laughed at the Puerto Rico joke while the rest mostly stayed silent or voiced noises of disapproval.
That comedian absolutely bombed out there. When you see a comedy start chastising the audience, that's when you know he's bombing.
