When religious beliefs go too far

I think we should organize a protest of this Islamic oppression. I hereby propose we organize an international "pee on your leg day"! Whose with me? :woohoo:

It is a fascinating, if not sad, look at someone who views God as so demanding and petty as to send someone to be tortured in the grave because they got a drop of pee on themselves. I feel for someone that out of touch with life to imagine this is one of the rules to being loved by God.

I dont think he wanted to propagate hate, just pointing out the dangers of extremism.

I think that's true, but tact has clearly not been used, instead pointing to an extreme example of a person following a religion that's been getting a lot of unfair trolling lately.

Personally, I'd think a more tactful example when pointing out general criticisms of a particular path would be using examples from one's own path/beliefs.

For example, as a European-descended Asatru, I've joined in the collective curse on the concept that only those of European descent can practice the religion, and on its white-supremacist side.

I actually agree with this. But, are we so stupid that we need a religion or a god to tell us how to pee?

I've been saying for quite a while: You stand up at a urinal and sit the hell down on a toilet.

They are not telling everyone how they should urinate, they are telling those who follow the faith how to urinate. If you don't follow the faith, then no one is going to expect you to follow the tenets. Or if they do, you don't have to follow them. The same goes for any other faith, for example, I am a Christian- I don't expect non-Christians to follow the same kinds of teachings that I follow. If someone is telling you to follow certain rituals, all you would have to say is "I don't follow the faith".

Edited to add: I am not speaking of extremism. I know that extremism in any faith, religion, or organization can have disastrous results.

The only time religious beliefs go too far is when they promote or engender oppression, violence, hate, fear, etc. I have no idea how anyone would parse all the other religious nonsense into categories of "too far," or "reasonable."

Or if a child is harmed or killed. Sometimes children are victims of extremist beliefs. We need to protect children and other innocents.

Exactly. People go too far with their religious beliefs. It's hard to say a religion is 100% this or that when EVERYONE in the same religions believe differently.

I would much prefer a Pee on an Islamic Terrorist Day. Wouldn't that totally freak them out!

No, it won't, because it's very likely that it's the tiniest of handfuls of Muslims that actually believe that.

It would freak them out by virtue of it being gross. It would also help reinforce their stereotypes of how Americans are. They'd only have more reason to hate us.

I agree with this.

The Nation of Islam wants to cut off heads?
Have any links about this?
It's the first time I've ever heard this about the Motor City religion.

Must suck for people who get stung by a jelly fish....

In Australia we have blue bottles (a kind of poisonous jelly fish) and when you get stung by one something in the chemicals that make up spray on deodorant reacts with the poison to prevent it stinging instantly an effectively. You may have been urinating on your leg needlessly :D
