When Was Jesus Really Born

Annoyingly Progressive Since 2006
Maybe he was born on July 7, 07 b.c.e. That would make his number 777, the number of perfection thrice repeated, and an antithesis to 666, the number of the beast...:areyoucra

The Latter-day Saints believe He was born on April 6. We didn't come to this conclusion based on anything other than our belief that this date was revealed to Joseph Smith.
From Chabad ...
Moses died on the seventh of Adar.

The Talmud proves this as follows:

In Deuteronomy 34:8 we read that the Jews mourned for thirty days following Moses' death in the Plains of Moab. This area borders Israel, just east of the Jordan River.

The book of Joshua begins with G‑d's command to bring the Jewish people across the Jordan River. G‑d specifies that they are to cross in three days time. This instruction was given immediately after Moses died, meaning at the earliest possible opportunity after his death. This would have been following the thirty days of mourning.

In Joshua 4:19 we are told that the Jews crossed the river on the tenth of Nissan. If we subtract the three days between the command and actual crossing, plus the thirty days of mourning, we find the date of Moses' passing is the seventh of Adar.

Incidentally, the seventh of Adar is also Moses' birthday. This we derive from what Moses said on the day of his death (Deuteronomy 31:2): "Today I am one hundred and twenty years old."
There was an apparent tradition that Prophets of note died on the anniversary of their birth. Scripture claims that Jesus died on the eve of Passover, and an early April date for Pesach would be fairly typical. Apparently there existed a [competing?] tradition that some Prophets died on the anniversary of their conception.

So, if you assume an early April date for the crucifixion, these two traditions give ...
  • an early April date for his birth, or
  • an early April date for conception with birth in late December.
We're left with very little to go on other than tortured speculation or, for some, revelation.

Wow! That's really interesting. I did see an article written by an LDS scholar once who claimed that Jesus was not only born on April 6, but died on April 6 as well. I simply dismissed it as his own opinion. I had no idea that there was some kind of an ancient tradition that might be involved.

Only small children think that Jesus was actually born on December 25th. Grown ups know that on this day the birth of Jesus is remembered and celebrated.

One of the most powerful evidences of the existence of Jesus is the Christian Church itself. There were Christians in Caesar's own household within one generation of the crucifixion of Christ. Also, if Jesus is not the author of the teaching attributed to him in the New Testament then some other extraordinarily divine person must be given the credit.

I would think that if the story said there was a star and now after all these years we have some proof there was a celestial event THAT YEAR, would add credibility to the birth of the Christ child.

Celebrating the birth of Christ on a Pagan holiday is the ultimate insult to Christianity. When are we going to wake up and smell the coffee? Easter is no better!

Jesus in me
So a lot of us know that Dec 25th isn't Jesus' real b-day, it's actually the birthday of the sun after the winter solstace on Dec 22nd. That holiday was celebrated before by sun worshippers and adapted as the date by Romans when they made christianity their religion. So this is an interesting article (several others like it online) which talks about Jesus' real birth date.

Truth Or Tradition - Was Jesus Christ born on Christmas, Dec. 25th, or summer, fall, September

That is BS. If Christians wanted the birth of Jesus to be associated with the Winter Solstice we would be celebrating on the 22nd.

My Bible reports two calendars, the ecclesiastical calendar and the secular calendar. I believe that the apsotles would have used the secular calendar which would put the birth of Jesus in December.

Jesus as a Capricorn makes a lot of sense. As a man of sorrow and aquainted with grief he fits right in. Also Capricorns can become famous and suffer great shame. Richard Nixon was a Capricorn.

I do have to confess that I have no idea how the 24th was selected (figuring that Jesus could have been born before midnight). After all the story makes it sound like she was ready to pop a baby pretty quickly and there is no account of a long travail in labor. (granted first births seem to come more slowly than later ones but every woman has her own course of labor)
