Where can I learn about modern paganism?

About paganism as it is practiced today although I am also interested in its history

I know very little but would like to know more

I don't know where to begin so thought I'd ask here since there are pagans on RF!
I'm finding this site very helpful and interesting:

I second this book @Eddi as a favorite intro to Druidry.
I'll third this recommendation, though it isn't my favorite. Not sure I have one. One thing this book does a good job is a quick and dirty overview of the history of Druidry. The rest of the structure of it is somewhat specific to Greer's tradition of Druidry (AODA) which isn't a problem per se but it is not for everybody. Penny Billington's "Path of Druidry" (The Path of Druidry: Walking the Ancient Green Way) is a bit more in line with the OBOD style if that's the direction you're going for.

On the subject of tree murder, the book I've been slowly working through lately had a nugget of wisdom in regards to this from our indigenous North American brothers and sisters. A tale was spun about the harvesting of materials to make needed things and recognizing that a living being had to be killed to make these things. Through that sacrifice, you hold in your hands the wood of a being who spend seasons upon seasons making itself like this for you. How will you honor it? It is the least you can do to spend a few moments in thanks, or making sure you do not waste and do not take more than you need. There's very much an absence of commodification in indigenous religion. The materials that make our lives work are not things, they are persons who gave things up and gifted things to us so we can live.

I love trees and it always pains me to see one being cut down, as though it has no value
Cut down trees have value. I like to make things from wood, and I've cut down three trees last winter. Though they were already dead.

Both the Order of Bards Ovates and Druids (OBOD) and the British Druid Order (BDO) offer online courses. I am not too familiar with the BDO, but I have heard good things. The OBOD courses do seem to be highly thought of.

This is a nice introduction to Modern Druidry.

There are two places, outdoors and the library. Outdoors will be tricky as it's the divine that's teaching and not mankind. The library will need a starting place for you to read, so religious myths of yonder year and depending on the size and social climate, there might be more modern books on Paganism available.

If you want a quick and dirty introduction to modern Pagan ceremonies, a quick pit-stop at any CUUPS event is fairly safe and budget friendly. Don't forget your hotdish for the potluck afterwards. If unable to locate one, then chances are if there are any practicing groups in the area they are word of mouth and invitation only events. That would leave your next best bet to be a frequent visitor to your local bookstore and hang out around the Pagan books to meet others. If that's too creepy, asking the shopkeeps if they about Pagan meetings might be best, especially if they have an indoors Starbucks or any other coffee shop.

There is a lot to filter and sift through. Modern Pagans are not organised like Christian faiths. There is no base structure that all reference too. Each Pagan is very much an individual even if they proclaim membership in different traditions and there are countless traditions.
