Where would you like to live?

Going alond with Druidus' thread, "Where do you live", I thought it would be interesting to see where people would live if they could live anywhere in the world, and why. This is especially interesting for those of us haven't settled down yet!

I'm not sure where I'd like to live, but I know that I want a lot of land. I want to see my horses run free, and to go read a book next to the stream that runs through the property. I'd love to have some forest where I could go hiking, and where my kids could build forts. The Shenandoah Valley in Virginia comes to mind--that's one of the most beautiful places I've ever seen.

Also, I would like to live at least moderately close to a big city. This might be hard if I also want a lot of land, but I don't want to be entirely cut off from civilization!

Ceridwen, I have to agree with your post on where you would like to live.

I also would like the weather to stay between 60 and 80 degrees fahrenheit.

I would want part of my land set aside for my mentor, myself and anyone that joins us to build our temple.

I used to want enough money to build my own town where all my family and friends could live and be happy. (I know sounds kind of cultish but hey I did nto say I thought it all out yet. ROFL)

I would stay in the Northwest. From my window I see the mountains, am surrounded by fir trees and the climate is temperate. We are loaded with lakes streams, rivers, creeks, the sound, mountains, etc. We have many walking trails through the woods even in the suburbs. It's a great place for children. I have lived in Virginia. It's a great place for history, but the weather and surrounding beauty doesn't even come close to the Northwest. I have also lived in Texas, Minnesota, Michigan, California, Kentucky, etc. I have driven through most of the states. They all have their own particular charm, but for everyday fun and comfort, nothing beats the Northwest.

Here , there , and everywhere . :)

I have to agree with Lightkeeper though . The Vancouver / Seattle area is on of the most beautiful I have ever seen . And personally , I don't mind the rain ... ;)

United States Virgin Islands! What could be better, tropical Caribbean islands with great diving and weather, but still with the familiarity of the States. I would have to say...St. Thomas of the islands.... It is not as metropolized as St. John and not as remote as St. Croix.

southern india, goa or mozambique, africa i think the influence of the humility in those areas would be great for helping to over come pride

I have only tried Northern India for a month, and haven't been to China yet, so I'm not ready to answer. If I for some unthinkable reason had to or wanted to leave Sweden right now, I'd probably choose Denmark, Germany or the Netherlands.

<added:>The reasons would be that I am very familiar with those countries, their cultures, the food etc., the climates are at least not worse than in Sweden, and the languages are no problem.</add>

I just want to live in a rural area, where it isn't too cold (preferrably warm), semi-arid, I have internet access, and could live rather peacably. I don't want anything or anywhere that's all that fancy...and I definately don't want it crowded.

With the exception of the "cold" part in the winter...a rural place in the TX panhandle would do nicely.

Everywhere that I've wanted to live so far I have lived. Grew up in San Francisco and thought it was the best place on earth. Not that I really wanted to live in Los Angeles - went there for grad school - but once I learned to accept it for what it was, I loved it. Then, I decided that I wanted to try living on the East Coast (before returning to and settling down on the West coast which was clearly superior. ;)) I picked my postdoc in New York as much for the location as for the lab, because I love NYC. When I decided to leave science, I picked DC because I wanted to experience living here. (At this point, btw, I like the East coast as much as the West.)

Pastoral areas such as Vermont are very nice to visit, but I will always be a big-city girl, with walking access to restaurants, museums and theaters. (I'm also a night owl so 24hr shopping is a plus.) And suburbs are absolutely evil imo.

Yes, I'm aware that I've only mentioned cities in the U.S. As much as I love to travel to other countries and experience new things, I admit that I prefer to live within the culture that I grew up and am most comfortable with. Altho... I thought Toronto was so fantastic that I would consider living there if it weren't for winters.

Up in the higher altitudes of Arizona, there isn't anyplace that compares to it, clean air, clean spring water, far enough away from much of civilization to see multitudes of stars, low humidity, etc. I'm having my ashes thrown in Canyon de chelly when I keel over, that is if I don't disappear in the mountains if I am lucky enough to feel when my time is short- then I will probably live another 25 years- but what the hell.

The French Riveria - the intimacy and aloofness of sidewalk cafes, the cultural ambience, the French delicacy of seafood and wine, the warmth and the breeze, the observance of the "elite", the gambling at Monte Carlo, the sea and all its accouterments.

I would choose to return to what is now known as the 'Democratic Republic of the Congo', where I was born and spent my early years.

Unfortunately, I haven't got an armed personal carrier, endless amunition which I would need to survive in what was once such a beautifull land.
Perhaps, one day, God willing........:)

FBI, I'd be willing to move to your town!

I'd like somewhere with a lot of wild places, so I could trek around the forests and the plains as I did when I was kid.

Definatly somewhere rural, with dramatic landscape but hospitable enough to live in and relativly quiet. MUST be somewhere that I can bodyboard. New Zealand or Hawaii spring to mind, though i have allways wanted to live in Arizona. Preferably not in a city *shudders*
