Who Are the More Reasonable RFers?

oldbadger

Skanky Old Mongrel!
Oh, now, you are just repeating what you hear others saying about you.
Indeed..... and like our armies going back through the ages, I shall sew any insults to my coat's breast and display them with pride. But I don't expect that you'll know anything about that.

A common complaint about the internet is that the lunatics get all of the attention because they are the noisiest. I think there's some truth to that -- even if it isn't perfectly true. So I'm starting this thread to call a wee bit of attention to some other people -- the "more reasonable" folks.

Near as I can figure, folks are not born reasonable -- they have to work at it. Any slacker can be a lunatic, but it takes an effort to be more or less reasonable. So I think more or less reasonable folks deserve a bit of recognition, too.

Bearing in mind that no human is perfectly reasonable, and that all of us humans are stubborn beasts a good portion of the time, who would you say are the more reasonable RFers?

I don't mean "more reasonable" when compared to other RFers -- all RFers are above average when it comes to being reasonable (of course, I might be biased about that). Instead, I mean more reasonable than the human norm.

By "reasonable", I mean most likely to be persuaded by well reasoned argument up to and including changing their minds when presented with a weight of good reasons for doing so.

One thing I do NOT mean by "reasonable" is "agreeable". Several of the folks on my list of more reasonable RFers are people I sometimes -- to very often -- find myself in disagreement with. But that doesn't make them any less reasonable.

Here's my list --- with the twin caveats that (1) I ain't got enough brains anymore to remember everyone, so some people who deserve to be included are sure to be left out, and (2) these are just my opinions, and I do not claim my opinions to be infallible.

In no particular order:

@Vouthon
@Vinayaka
@SalixIncendium
@Sakeenah

This can't be all of RFs more reasonable folks, though, so who else?

It is no surprise I am not in the list since I can't even get myself to agree with the way you defined 'reasonable'. :p

Ooohhh... you were insulting people, and

What? You didn’t include me?
Let’s calmly consider the possibilities, shall we?
1. You forgot me.
2. You remembered me, but decided to carry out some sort of sick “joke”.
or...
3. You don’t consider me...reasonable.

Me. Not reasonable. ME. Not reasonable. me. NOT reasonable?

not REASONABLE!?

YOU DON’T THINK I’M REASONABLE!?!

I’LL HAVE YOU KNOW, THAT

I

AM A.

VERY.

REASONABLE

PERSON!!

Thank you for your kindly consideration.
There should be an “hilarious” rating!

Nice gif.

I like the idea of myself being reasonable, I like that other(s) see me as more or less reasonable, and it means more, given that I know you to be a reasonable person @Sunstone , that you so see. I appreciate your consideration.

Other than all the thoughts of where I fail to meet such a standard, the only thing I would add to this is that as I ran down the mental list of reasonable people I've met on RF, I can't help but remember all the great guys and gals that are no longer here that I would quite like to have another conversation with.

I know what you mean. I had similar thoughts about all the people who've come and gone when I was writing the OP. A couple I especially miss are @Jayhawker Soule and @Mr Spinkles. Spinks shows up every now and then -- but doesn't stay long -- and I fear Jay has put RF behind him for good. He and I exchange emails, but it's not quite the same as seeing him every day. There are lots of folks besides those two, as well.

Who all do you miss?

Mr Spinkles and Deut(I can't help but think of him as Deut) both instantly came to mind. The Voice of Reason, Victor, Scott, No*s, Feathers in Hair, Draka, Linwood, Rev. Rick, I can't remember his name but we had a biblical scholar that gave up posting in exasperation. I know I'm missing alot of good people too.

It would be interesting to add a new frubal category. Something like: "I see your point and it's caused me to revise my thinking".

Then we could actually tally up reasonable-ness as the OP defines it.

We have a tie! In first place is.... EVERYBODY (with zero points)

Nice post. Thanks. Had me do some introspection today.

For me "reasonable" is quite subjective. I think @PopeADope is very reasonable according to the definition. Many might think he is "Unreasonable" to cuddle with Tarantulas. But he used this to conquer his spider fear. That I call very reasonable. That is what spirituality is all about.

Who is more "Reasonable", someone with an IQ of 158 and boasting about it, but using only 58, or someone silently with an IQ of 60 managing to use 59? By our birth we have all been dealt some cards to play with. Some have no legs, others can't help themselves but be "Unreasonable".

We have "being reasonable", but also "being in contact with our feelings". For me part of my goal in life is to balance these out. I found many on RF very reasonable. And I guess it's reasonable to say that if the other does not change his mind, it just means I failed in being "perfect reasonable" (or he just has different SvaDharma). Because if you think the other should change his mind, you have to tackle all the problems why he is initially unwilling to change his mind. Then only you were "really reasonable". Can't expect someone who is hungry to have interest in debating/spirituality. First give him some bread and wine (and that's only the physical part; to cater the emotional part is way more difficult).

I like to think I'm pretty reasonable. At least I smile if I insult you. And, yeah, perhaps stubborn too?

Respectfully, what do you mean by identifying your religion as : Would Judaism work out?

I mean no offense; I might agree with you depending on what you mean by it.

Thank you in advance,

No offense actually. I'm just a searcher, and haven't found the right one yet. Trying to make certain of what is pleasing to the Creator.

I'm reasonable in the sense that I'm receptive to considering different viewpoints and do not object to change, correction and even defeat.

I try to approach people with compassion and understanding. @Father Heathen strives to do the same, though, he can be a turd (at home too). :)

Thank you. I'm searching too.

One functional problem I have noticed is that none of my friends and family have read the Qur'an. I'm not sure if Judiasm "will work" if Jewish people are not reading the Christian or Islamic scriptures.

I imagine there are other obvious obstacles in Judiasm. But this is the one that I was thinking of when I asked you the question.

There is a Jewish woman who has been sending me essays about Judaism, and they have been quite informative. So far, Judaism seems more simple than Islam or Christianity, except for their 600+ rules that some of them are quite obsessive about. Perhaps Christians are more relaxed because their automatic "salvation" when they accept Jesus Christ as their personal savior?

Islamics don't have this thing that the Christians do, so I have seen a constant effort and insecurity about pleasing Allah SWT. I "feel" closest to Islam for some very personal reasons.
