According to Ahmadiyya Muslims' Understanding from Holy Quran and Sayings of Prophet of Islam (pbuh) Promised Messiah -- The Imam Mahdi has come and now his fifth Khalifah is leading the peaceful peace-harbouring Worldwide growing Ahmadiyya Muslim Community in 206 countries.
Holy Quran and Holy Prophet (s.a.w.) made prophecy for reformation of Latter days.
HOLY QURAN
[ch62:v3] He it is Who has raised among the Unlettered people a Messenger from among themselves who recites unto them His verses, and purifies them, and teaches them the Book and wisdom, although they had been, before, in manifest misguidance;
[ch62:v4]And among others from among them, who have not yet joined them. He is the Mighty, the Wise.
SAYINGS OF HOLY PROPHET MUHAMMAD (PBUH) ABOUT THE VERSE (62:4) AND OTHER SAYINGS ABOUT MAHDI
i = The Companion Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) said:
One day we were sitting with Holy Prophet when Surah Jumua was revealed. I enquired from the Holy Prophet, Who are the people to whom the words,
'And among others who have not yet joined them' Salman, the Persian was sitting among us. Upon my repeated asking him the same question the Holy Prophet put his hand on Salman and said, 'If faith were to go up to the Pleiades, a man from these would surely find it.'
[Ref: Book of Hadith, Bukhari]
ii= And Hadith of Muslim, Holy Prophet (s.a.w.) said four time Esa Nabiullah's [Jesus the Prophet of Allah] coming.
iii=Two Ahadith in Bukhari mentions two different men as Esa ibne Maryam (Jesus);
a)-one was reddish with curly hairs (in Mairaj - ascension, obviously it was first Esa a.s. and
b)-other as brownish skin straight hairs circuiting around Kaaba after Dajjal.
iv= Mahdi is none but Esa (Jesus). [Ref: Ibne Majah]
The same promised reformer has the different titles, he is Jesus to indicate coolness, peace, he is Mahdi means 'guided by Allah'.......(All Prophets are Mahdis because they are guided by Allah).
NET RESULT
1- The latter days' reformer is lost in love of Holy Prophet (s.a.w.) as subordinate Prophet.
2- He will defend Islam against anti truth forces (Dajjal).
3- He is like Jesus a.s. (who came after 1400 years of Moses a.s.), he came 1400 years after Muhammad (s.a.w.)
4- He is Mahdi too, i.e. guided by Allah.
5- He is beloved servant devotee of Hazrat Muhammad (s.a.w.)
6- His peace message of 'pay rights of God and people' is for all humanity because he came as the servant of Holy Prophet (s.a.w.) who is mercy for all humanity.

A very interesting subject indeed.
This subject on the emergence of Imam Al-Mahdi(AS) has reached a very important stage in the eyes of the Islamic World.
But before we even delve on the subject of who the imam is we have to understand the events that will lead to his appearance.
A very lengthy subject indeed but i am going to give it a start.
Firstly the Noble Quraan mentions Gog and Magog.So the question is who is coming first Gog and Magog or the Al-Mahdi(AS).
The ff verse the Noble Quraan gives the first clue.
"Waharamun AAalaqaryatin ahlaknaha annahum la yarjiAAoon
Hatta itha futihatya/jooju wama/jooju wahum min kulli hadabin yansiloon"
"And there is a ban upon any community(town) which We have destroyed: that they shall not return.
Until, when Gog and Magog are let loose, and they hasten out of every mound."
The verse refers to the Jews who were banned from Jerusalem which city Allah destroyed.The verse and the invasion of Jerusalem by the Jews confirm that Gog and Magog are now loose.
Now the question is who is Gog and Magog?

Hazrat Mahdi (pbuh) last Imam of Imams PBUH that end in tyranny and hopelessness for the salvation of humanity who have incurred divine will rise up and bring them to justice. He was born in the year 255 AH in Samarra and in the year 260 AH Imam came to office ... To be continued ...

Al Mahdi is just a normal man who will come near the end of time to be the last just caliph of Islam. He will spread justice and be Muslim's imam. He will be from the descendants of Ali, cousin of Prophet Mohamed. His name will be the same as Prophet Mohamed. His physical features has been mentioned by Prophet Mohamed in many hadiths. He will start as a regular man, just like us, but later on in his life he he will be guided by Allah in order to be fit for this mission.
