Where are the bones of Goliath or any other giants?
And it just doesn't get much more insightful than that ...the answer is beautiful in it's simplicity. Neither. The stories of goliath are most likely just as false as the rest of the bible. Did Goliath exist? possibly, but I'm assuming that if he did, then many if not all stories that come from the bible concerning his life and death are wrong.
Parenthetically ...
Among the various suggestions put forth to resolve this contradiction is B. Mazar's proposal that Elhanan the son of Jaare (יערי is to be identified with David son of Jesse (ישי. Elhanan was David's true name before he ascended the throne, while Jaare is a corruption of Jesse (see*David). Not really. Mazar's proposal is new to me - hardly indicative of "great knowledge." It is, however, indicative of respect for subject matter and a willingness to at least casually research a topic before deigning to instruct others on it.Jay, would you pleae answer what motivates you? You are most interstingly a man of great knowledge, ...

Very well: it took about 90 seconds and a minimal familiarity with a search engine to find the reference quoted above -- which speaks more to Adriel's blather and your amazement than my knowledge. As a result I cant help but be curious about your background and length of time researching all things related.

Wait, is this one of those things that 1) really happened as described in the bible; 2) didn't happen, and is just a metaphor; 3) did happen, and is a metaphor; 4) may or may not have happened, and may or may not be a metaphor; 5) is co-opted from an earlier religion, and may or may not be a metaphor; or 6) any combination of 1 through 5?
All uppercase ... oh my! rolleyes:I thought it was interesting that the Encycl. Judaica pointed out also, that there was a CONTRADICTION between 1 Sam 17 and 2 Sam 21. Only one story can be true.
I did that just for you Jayhawker. You liked my "Birds" with upper case so i thought you would really like "CONTRADICTION" even more. Like to keep the young people happy. All uppercase ... oh my! rolleyes:
Trust me: few things are like to make me more happy than being called a young person ...I did that just for you Jayhawker. You liked my "Birds" with upper case so i thought you would really like "CONTRADICTION" even more. Like to keep the young people happy.
Wait, didn't Jay post something that explains that David is Elhanan?Interesting point you make Jayhawker. I would like to suggest that the real killer was NOT David but Elhanan as 2 Sam 21 points out. The story in 1 Sam 17 has one big flaw, and some minner ones, in it indication it is really a very nice legend to make David look like a great man.
