Who Was The Spirit Of Truth? And Who Was The Comforter?

You just have to get the last word in ey?
OK, if it makes you feel better, I'll let you have the last word.
You not me,i never think that way, seems like the last word is important to you and that's why you mentioned it.
You don't have to admit any thing, many members here are convinced that the comforter isn't the Holy spirit
John 16: 7
"Nevertheless I tell you the truth; it is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you".
Only if Jesus (pbuh) depart, the comforter will come, these means that the comforter will not come if jesus doesn't depart, the Holy Spirit was already there,it's not the Holy Spirit.
John 14:16
"And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you forever."
There is only one Holy Spirit, the term "another" shows clearly that the Holy Spirit is not the comforter.
We'll get this sorted out on Judgment Day.
Quran 11:93
"And O my people! Do whatever ye can: I will do (my part): Soon will ye know who it is on whom descends the penalty of ignominy; andwho is a liar! and watch ye! for I too am watching with you!"
Again let us part in peace.
Peace.

Depends Upon My Mood..
My meat loaf certainly does ... I toss in pretty much whatever is at hand and the reality of "my" meatloaf is ever changing.
About parts ... does a mind have parts? Tangible parts?

I think a mind does..

Just more hard to explain than meat with onions and peppers and seasoning.More "perplexing" and No you cant hold the mind in your hand. Not exactly.

All we have to go on is a mind is inside a body that has parts.

Can you hold in your hand what makes us laugh?Or what makes us cry?

Nope.

Puszzling.

P.S...

No two meatloafs are exactly the same..(well I suppose they can be but hopefully not)..

Maybe I used a bad analogy..Even though I love a meatloaf that changes.

Why not? He did so in the Bhagavad-Gita quite a bit. ^_^

To clarify something: I do not believe the entire Bible to be the literal Word of God, and the Gospel of John, while a beautiful piece of literature, is the word of the author. It is therefore likely that the historical Jesus never said anything about a comforter at all. (I believe Jesus to have been a wandering Sage.)

ok thanks for clearing that up.

You say nope, I say, yep!
I presume you have not held a newborn in your hand, or the the heartfelt creation of a small child, or a dying kitten or puppy ...

come on in,

stay for a while,

we got a problem

check it:

John 15:26

But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me.

John 14:16

And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever.

God will Be sending the Spirit of truth, who is that?

Who is This another Comforter spoken about?

Could there be Two Comforters or more?

If The Comforter is the Holy ghost,
than who is the spirit of truth?

Because if the Comforter is the Holy spirit,

than the Holy Ghost cant be the Spirit of Truth,
because that would mean that there are two Holy Ghost.

Question that you dont have to answer,
but should call you to reflect on,
at the same time if you think
you understand this please
share.

This is doubled in the Biblical Debates section. Why?

itwillend, please note that the prophecy clearly says that only if Jesus (pbuh) departs will the Comforter come as in John 16: 7
"Nevertheless I tell you the truth; it is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not
come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you".
The Bible states that the Holy Spirit was already present on earth before and during the time of Jesus (pbuh) and again when Jesus (pbuh) was being baptised etc. Muhammad (pbuh).
There is one comforter you agree surely not the Holy spirit.Hence this prophecy refers to none other than Prophet Muhammad (pbuh). http://www.religiousforums.com/foru.../84270-prophet-muhammad-pbuh-prophesised.html
BZZZZZT! Thanks for playing. We have some lovely parting gifts for you, including the home version of our game.

But we cant hold in our hand why.Why are some children afraid of the dark and others arent.?Why do some people love animals and others think a nuscence? We cant hold in our hand why that can change either.

I suppose Im saying we cant hold in our hand our indivuduality and what makes us tick.Unless we hold our own brains in our hands or someones brain in our hands and even then I think it goes beyond that..We can not hold in our hands our feelings and emotions.

And yes I have held a newborn in my hands. And the hearftfelt creation of small and "large' children(my son just played me a song he wrote I dint "hold it in my hand but I heard it in my ear)...and a dying baby bird and a dying Rottweiller and a dying Yorrkshire Terrrior..etc...

The Comforter is the Holy Spirit and in essence and action the Spirit is characterized by truth. God The Father, Son and Holy Spirit represent the truth. This is underscored in John 4:23 which says: "God is spirit and His worshipers must worship in spirit and truth". (NIV)

so let me ask you this,

does the Holy spirit speak on its own,
or does it speak what God commands?

In the role as Counselor and Comforter, The Holy Spirit has a role in guiding us in truth. Jesus stated as much in John 16:5-15 through the instruction of the Father.

I don't believe that to be true. God The Father, God The Son and God The Holy Spirit share resident attributes to deity and authority. Through the incarnation, Jesus had a specific role that He was responsible for while on earth as a redeemer and savior of the world. While He was on earth, Jesus served as a counselor, teacher and comforter to His followers. The Holy Spirity, another comforter, assumes that role from the time He was sent to continue to be a sustainer for the body of Christ (the church), guiding us in the truth that comes from God.

Greetings!

In the Baha'i view, the "Spirit of Truth" and the "Comforter" refer to Divine Messengers after Christ.

Although it's not completely clear which title refers to each one, in general such titles refer IOV to Messengers like Muhammad, the Bab, and Baha'u'llah.

(YMMV as ever.)

Best regards, :)

Interesting. Although I don't agree, it's always good to hear another point of view. Be blessed.

he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself 16:13

if the holy spirit is God, than how could God not speak of Himself
if this is suppose to be holy spirit?

Because of the role that the Holy Spirit assumed in carrying out the purpose of santification for the Church. Phillipians 2 speak about Jesus assuming a subordinate role in an effort to carrying out the purpose of salvation. The Holy Spirit, although sharing the attributes of deity with God The Father, assumed a subordinate role in regards to guiding the church in truth. Does not take away His power, but underscores the humility and servitude that are resident attributes of God.

can the Holy spirit have a mind to think for itself?
but it chooses to be subordinate?

or does it not have free will ?
