I prefer wings of desire, but I like 'until the end of the world' even though It was indirectly responsible for the break up of a two year relationship, expecting someone to sit through all 6 hours is apparently unreasonable.

I know it's trite, but I like the strange mix of apocalyptic destruction and hope.
LOL, fascinating, for me it was part of the beginning of a relationship, it was her favorite movie, and I watched the 6 hours, and actually rather enjoyed it!

So now you can't break up or it will have negative connotations for you, I hope she's a keeper.:D

One of the most interesting people as well as my favorite director is John Waters.

I have to agree. Watched A Dirty Shame last night and laughed my *** off. I recently bought his spoken word/stand up This Filthy World and it's absolutely brilliant!

I like a director who takes risks and doesn’t play by the rules and John Waters is the definitive maverick. I enjoyed his early films (Mondo Trasho, Female Trouble, Pink Flamingos, Multiple Maniacs), and the small family of friends and actors that he worked with (Divine, Mink Stole, Edith Massey, Mary Vivian Pierce, David Lochary, Cookie Mueller). These early films constantly pushed the bizarre envelope and are a true testaments to the “cult” film. A Dirty Shame was a respectable return to his NC-17 roots. A Filthy World was an extra insight into his life but if anyone ever gets the chance, delve into all his film commentaries. Not only will someone learn a lot about film making but he has a tremendous recall of his life experiences and where some of his ideas come from. The commentaries are just if not more entertaining than the film. John Waters is the kind of director who seems approachable, someone I would love to spend a whole day just talking and getting to know better.

If I were going to pick some directors who have made several movies I enjoy...
- Stanley Kubrick - "2001: A Space Odyssey" and "A Clockwork Orange" were excellent, and am trying to get my hands on several of Kubrick's other major movies, particularly "Doctor Strangelove".

I've managed to watch "Doctor Strangelove" and "Lolita" recently. Lolita was not my sort of movie, but I would have to put "Doctor Strangelove" down as one of my favourites. Another win for Kubrick, then.

Ridley Scott
Clint Eastwood (too under-rated for my sentiments) - A Perfect World is brilliant.

Done here.
mine would undoubtedly be Akira Kurosawa
I'm disappointed that the rest of the thread doesn't consist entirely of enthusiastic agreement.

Other than Kurosawa, and ignoring for a moment the obvious (Fleming, Cukor, Coppola, Scorsese, Spielberg, Tarantino), I think I'd have to say my favorite directors are the Coen brothers.

I like:
M. Night Shyamalan
Peter Jackson
Tim Burton

But I don't even know who directed most of the movies that I like... Alls I know is that I like most Tim Burton movies that I've seen and most M. Night Shyamalan movies. Alls I know about Peter Jackson is the LOTR and King Kong movies he directed are both in my list of favourite movies. :D
