Whose your favorite historical figure living or dead?

I pray to my friend Napoleon. What defeated him wasn't any Army. It was the winter. He rose from nothing and always knew what to do on the battlefield. Saint Napoleon Bonaparte, assist us sinners now and at the hour of our death, amen! Thy will be done!

I'm old fashioned...

If I had to play the favorites game, I still remember the day this speech was made and I got goosebumps then and still do now

I don't much like the editing job on this, but I also remember this speech and well, it was a remarkable time to be alive... @Quetzal

Interestingly, I know of a christian friend who told me that his pastor said that Napoleon was an anti-christ along with hitler.

I later saw a photograph of two catholic priests blessing Hitler happily during those times. Even though the priests had blessed Hitler he turned out to be an antichrist ! I found this very ironical.

But I must say Napoleon is a favourite hero of mine after I read his biography, though he was cast as an anti-christ by my friend's pastor.

Lol to certain sects of Christians, literally everyone outside of their brand of Christianity are the anti-christ. The WBC thought Obama was the anti-Christ, Jack Chick thought the Pope was the Anti-Christ.
I wouldn't read too much into anti-christ claims, personally.

My other idol,
Roald Dahl.
Hardcore fan since childhood. And you know what? Children's literature is extremely important. To development, to education, to our kids. And this man I just idolized as a kid. And yeah, he was probably a sexist, maybe a racist. Perhaps even he was an antisemite. And you know what? I don't care. Even now I idolize him. I just love him and what he's meant to literature as a whole.

In order of importance to me:

  • Jesus Christ
  • Mary
  • My Grandfather (Showed me that the best men are patient, loving and maintain their sense of humor when suffering.)
  • St. Patrick
  • Countless women who have and continue to fight for women's rights
  • Eleanor Roosevelt
  • David Bowie (A brilliant artist, a good human being and my steadfast celebrity crush throughout the years)
  • Jane Austen (Because she masterminded Pride and Prejudice. James Darcy is my favorite fictional character ever)
  • Karen Carpenter (So talented. I melt every time I hear her lovely voice. If chocolate were audible, it would be Karen Carpenter singing Christmas carols.)
  • Chopin (If I could only choose one song to listen to for the rest of my life, Etude in E Major by violin will never disappoint me)
  • Kevin Aucoin (Opened my heart and eyes to makeup artistry and the beauty within the LGBTQ community that I hadn't seen before.)

A Pharaoh named Horemheb, right between the very famous Akhenaten and Tutankhamen. He was a major player in destroying the monotheism of Atenism and restoring ancient Egyptian religion to the country after the Armana period. This also cleared the way for the great Setian Pharaohs like Seti and Ramses.

An impressive list. Eleanor Roosevelt was certainly ahead of her time. Her fight was for human rights.

True! but he never would have been defeated on the battlefield were it not for that Russian Winter.
This is a gross over-simplification. The Battle of Borodino devastated the Grande Armee, and that was well before the Russian Winter began. Borodino sealed the fate of Napoleon's Russian ambitions, because it allowed the Russian army to melt back into the Russian interior, regroup, and continue harassing Napoleon's forces. The Winter just made it worse. Napoleon was defeated by his hubris, not the weather.

That is true! I stand corrected!

With what army? There was no way he could continue the campaign after Borodino, a battle that he technically "won". And because the Grande Armee was so utterly thrashed, that meant that Napoleon's "hostage alliances"(like Prussia) could safely tell him to go **** himself and restart their own war against him.
