"Originally coined as "invcel" around 1997 by a queer Canadian female student known as Alana, the spelling had shifted to "incel" by 1999,[7][8] and the term later rose to prominence in the 2010s, following the influence of Elliot Rodger and Alek Minassian.[9]"

"When she read about the 2014 Isla Vista killings, and that parts of the incel subculture glorified the perpetrator, she wrote: 'Like a scientist who invented something that ended up being a weapon of war, I can't uninvent this word, nor restrict it to the nicer people who need it'.[37][34] She expressed regret at the change in usage from her original intent of creating an 'inclusive community' for people of all genders who were sexually deprived due to social awkwardness, marginalization, or mental illness.[30]"

The most relevant portion of the perp's
background from Wikipedia....
Rodger attended Crespi Carmelite High School, an all-boys Catholic school in Encino, Los Angeles, and then Taft High School in Woodland Hills, which he attended for only a week due to severe bullying.[50]
Sounds like a troubled kid who was put
in the worst possible environment.

Thanks for these enlightening answers everyone I have learned that being a young man sucks and that it's better to be middle aged.

It is hard as a young man. I struggled with relationships for a long time. I remember as a teenager listening to my friends talk about girlfriends and sexual experiences, meanwhile not even having the experience of kissing a girl. Mostly because I was so obsessive and jealous that I felt like I needed to wait for the "one" and the "perfect moment."

I did a lot of self-reflection and experienced a lot of growth and decided working on meaningful relationships in general and learning to be happy with what I had was the most important.

It'll come. Just work on being the best person you can be and accept people as they are. :)

How do you expect people who are rejected to feel happy ?
At no time have I mentioned any expectations whatsoever.

I will freely admit that I have been rejected many times. All of the major relationships in my life were with women who sought me out. I am clearly not great in the chatting up department. We are all dealt a hand in this life. All to often it is a pretty rotten hand too. But you play it to the best of your ability and keep on going.

Why are there almost no middle aged or old men who say that they are incel ?

First, because the term is new, and you can't teach old dudes new tricks.

Second, old people are more likely to be settled.

Third, because dating apps and social media have made dating a nightmare.

Oh and we should not forget that the number of actual incels isn't very high, IIRC. Young men who struggle with dating aren't necessarily incels.

What's interesting, is that there seem to be even fewer femcels.
