No. Why don't you just answer my question? If your answer is no, for some reason, kindly provide what you consider to be an example of a "good" police officer. Are you asking this for the purpose of defending dumb & corrupt cops?

It seemed a rhetorical question. Why don't you just answer my question?
I even started a thread about good cops.If your answer is no, for some reason, kindly provide what you consider to be an example of a "good" police officer.
You were asked to provide an example, not list the qualities. It seemed a rhetorical question.
You already know that I'm too old (70).
So knowing at least one answer to your question already,
it struck me as a comment...not a real question. So I asked.
Because....
1) Boring work with no outlet for creativity.
2) They don't build anything.
3) I loathe government employment.
4) I'm retired & too old to start a new career.
I even started a thread about good cops.
It didn't get much attention.
A good cop would....
- Strive to be a respected professional.
- Know the law & the Constitution.
- Intend to serve the public & justice.
- Be emotionally mature, & maintain equanimity during vexing situations.
- Be honest, kind, trustworthy, dedicated, educated, & intelligent.
- Not be racist, sexist, ageist, bigoted, cruel, thieving, etc, etc.
- Not view civilians as frightening, or as the enemy.
Have you ever seen lawyer rebuild an engine? I've seen mechanics wiz through the process, some of whom have difficulty reading. The point is experience and repetition (training) creates a very skilled person. I'm sure the average police officer could stand well enough with a lawyer, also, so the IQ thing may be a bit misleading. When someone knows their job and function of a position, they often enough become very capable according to those specifics.I recall the IQ issue from a while ago, but recently ran across this article....
Excerpted....Court OKs Barring Smart People From Becoming Cops (Really)
Reader Ryan McCormick sends this amazing story from ABC News. Robert Jordan wanted to be a cop and he applied for a job as such in New London,reason.com
Jordan sued for discrimination but to no avail. Here's what a federal court ruled:
Too smart for police work, "Jordan has worked as a prison guard since he took the test."
@Wu Wei might find it fascinating that even a lowly engineer
would be rejected as too smart to be a cop. An interesting
aspect of the average 104 IQ claim is that this means that
nearly half of cops are below average (100 IQ).
So we're giving a couple hundred thousand below average
intelligence people a gun & a license to kill to civilians.
And this after training that's less than what's required
to be a mechanic, real estate agent, or cosmetologist.

Regarding the law, cops are notoriously ignorant of it.I've seen mechanics wiz through the process, some of whom have difficulty reading. The point is experience and repetition (training) creates a very skilled person. I'm sure the average police officer could stand well enough with a lawyer....
Many people believe they know their job.....also, so the IQ thing may be a bit misleading. When someone knows their job and function of a position, they often enough become very capable according to those specifics.
Thank you.Joe Crystal
Good Cops Are Driven From The Force
Joe Crystal was threatened & harassed by his entire department for reporting illegal assault on a handcuffed arrestee. In such places, there aren't any good cops. They're driven away. And Baltimore is a large city, which points to police being a large well organized criminal enterprise.www.religiousforums.com
You're welcome!Thank you.
You'd think that people given a gun & a licenseI was checking out public sector fields federally here in Canada for insurance reasons.
Only options for uneducated people were military, navy, cops or some special options for native collaborators with the former.
I reckon for a lot of people who don't have other prospects being a cop is just a safe way where they can get employment with some kind of valor without the discipline of the forces.
Well Texas and Florida, what do you expect?Woman returns from a cruise.
Cops arrest her because they don't bother to check her name.
It's similar to the one they want to arrest, but not the same.
This gal was older. And her picture was different too.
Heaven forbid that cops should check names & look at pictures to
be sure they're going to abuse the correct person. They don't care.
She sits in jail for several days, including Xmas.
Body cavity searches....freezing temperature....blaring rock music.
Oopsie!
Wrong person.
Still didn't let her go right away.
Why bother, eh. She's just an arrested civilian.
Taxpayers will pay this bill.
Woman sues Florida sheriff after mistaken arrest lands her in jail on Christmas
