Why Are So Many People Throwing The Word "Hypocrite" Around?

I can't help but notice how often lately I have been seeing the word "hypocrite". Sometimes it is spot on, but most of the time, it doesn't really fit. I am sure someone will post a dictionary definition if this thread catches on but I always took it to mean someone who preaches one thing and then practices the same thing or something equally as unacceptable.
Wouldn't that define anyone at some time or another?
I think we all need to be careful about what terms we throw around. ;)

Peeved posters love to find fault with those who disagree.
Inventing a fault opens up more possibility for insult.
But what do I know....I'm often told I'm a hypocrite.

Not really. It generally means a person who professes certain beliefs and opinions but then acts in contradiction to them.
