We have all heard the phases "Islam is a religion of Peace" and "the 911 hijackers hijacked Islam too." I think we need to get past that politically correct catch phrases and discuss what is really going on in Islam. Radical Islam is really just a return to its roots.. Islam was spread by the sword and the Quran and the most reliable Hadith literature glorify violent Jihad. The internet has opened the Quran and Hadith literature to Muslims worldwide and the can read the foundations of their faith. Muslims who study the foundations of their faith are really left with three options Apostasy, Ambivalence or Radicalization.

It actually spread remarkably slowly. It took 400 odd years to become a majority religion. If you think 50% took 400 years, you can do the maths.
That's a bit like saying the 'most reliable infowars stories' (and if infowars was written a few centuries after the fact.)

Well, they are instructed to read the Bible, which says to kill disobedient children, kill homosexuals, sell your daughters into slavery, and kill those who don't want Christ to reign over them. So, no one should be surprised since the entire Abrahamic tradition is built upon a god who demanded rivers of blood and mountains of corpses.
But, then again, most Muslims are like most Christians and they don't adhere to or really even know of such violent and nasty things found in their books, and what they do know of they have been so heavily conditioned to look at it through a certain lens they don't realize god was making unreasonable, cruel, evil, and demonic demands.
And how is this any different than Christianity?
Believe me, you are misjudging us. I've been a Muslim for 34 years now (I'm 34 years old, BTW) and studied Islam in its fundamental orthodoxy. Ask members around here about me and compare it with your finding.

In the New Testament & New Covenant there are no references to performing violence in the name of God. Jesus said to love your enemies. The difference is while there is violence described in the Old Testament (many of the incidents were historical - not condoned by God) as a Christian I believe the New Covenant supersedes the Old Covenant. In Islam the earlier (more peaceful) verses are superseded by the later (Quran Book 9) which is very violent and anti-Semitic.
Lastly, in these discussions it is common to bring up violence against Muslims perpetrated by the United States and Israel (i.e., drone attacks). These are actions by Nation-states and have nothing to do with Christianity.
For over a thousand years the Quran and Hadiths were not readily available to most Muslims. Muslims would memorize verses of the Quran (in classical Arabic) and not even know or understand Arabic. Muslims largely depended on their Imam to translate and interpret the Quran and Hadith literature. Over the years Imam's interpreted jihad in a much more benign way. Today, however, Muslims can use the internet to go directly to the core beliefs (which clearly challenge Muslims to commit jihad against the unbelievers). Muslims in the West have created a form of Islam that is much more tolerant and peaceful but if a believer decides to research Islam he or she can be radicalized by the core beliefs and teachings of Mohammed..

Believe me, just like there are such the above justifications in Christianity are given, there are in Islam. If one side keeps bringing them up here and bash the other side, there will be no end to it. Wanna take Muslims with core beliefs, why don't you take the ones in Hijaz (Makkah, Jeddah and Madinah), the areas closest to Islam ever, instead of random cherry picked ones. According to your views, these three areas (or rather only Jeddah where non Muslims are allowed) would be a torture chamber and a massacre to so many non Muslims, who are already in Jeddah, and it is not. Jeddah is just 70km away of the Grand Mosque where fundamental core teachings of Islam are taught.
