Why are you an Atheist?

the counter to that is to believe such complex life and laws of nature occurred out of nothing or through chance.

Yes but it does not. That is what makes human life and life on earth in general, so unique, special, different.
Indeed: life doesn't arise just anywhere as not everywhere has the right conditions for life to form over time. Life on Earth is unique and special, at least until we discover similar life elsewhere.
This is why we should stop trying to needlessly kill one-another over differences in political/social/economic/religious ideology.

It's like asking who made my sony phone, and I say the guys at Sony and the response is, who made the guys at SOny. we could go on ad infinitum. It is a logical fallacy.
Easy: the guys at Sony made your phone, and the guys at Sony were made by their parents.
You can't claim "everything must have a creator" and then conveniently omit the same requirement for the creator, that is an inconsistency.
If you then claim that your god has special attributes that mean he doesn't need a creator, then you are saying that the universe and all its contents does not necessarily require a creator either; that something can come from nothing. After all, why not just believe that the universe itself is god and that it didn't require a creator?

Out of curiosity, were you born in to a muslim family?

This is coming hot off the trail of my thread about the God Delusion, where I've had some interesting discussions with regards to atheism and what it takes people to become atheists and who they read, listen to, take info from etc etc. So I'm curious, to all the atheists out there, why are you an atheist? Is it based on science? Neglect and/or dislike of religion? Or something else?

Fire away and I won't really be commenting on this thread as I am looking for reasons why people are atheists and don't want to pressure them into discussions, so feel free to post any reason you like/want.
I have been an atheist all of my life because I was never indoctrinated with any of the "faiths" (gullibility?). I did look extensively at the Christian version of theism, because I live in a Christian dominated part of the world, and less so at some of the others. I could find no substance, therefore I remain of the opinion I had a birth.
