Why Are You Happier Than Me?

Generally, yes.
I don't know if you can know what it feel like to be someone like me.
You would have to be me in order to understand what it is like to look around and see happy people all around you and know you will never be one of them. I am not talking about having a bad day once in a while.
Perhaps you need to play with the kitties more frequently?
Maybe that's true, but that is not going to fix my other problems.

I'm happy on my own terms. Your happiness is always good to see, and contributes to my own, but I don't have any particular emotional reaction to it. On the other hand, when I see other people hurting my empathy kicks in and it can, at times, be quite painful. That's where I get emotionally involved.

I think that's generally true of all of us. There's no way for any of us to really know what its like to be another.

I actually don't believe they are happy, I think that something like that has to be very rare, or impossible. It could be a masking tool someone is using, or it could indicate ignorance , or it could indicate malevolence.

Best case scenario, it is a case of ignorance, because something horrible is happening at this moment somewhere in the world, and the disconnected person is fortunate not to sense or perceive it. If it is a front, then the device is used to cope with some horrible problem they have. If it is malevolence, then the person sees or participates in bad things in the world, and does not care, allowing for their mirth. They either effectively suppress what they should feel, or they truly don't care in a sociopath type style.

This is why I think at best, people with a fully opened awareness come to trust in forces greater than themselves, that will make things ok. The logos, or fate, or god, or gods, or the scientific corpus. A very aware person seems to want to tap these for contentment, otherwise what are they hoping in?

If someone appears to be happier in a given situation than you are, do you feel then need to seek such happiness? Are you compelled to keep up with the Jones'?

Why or why not?

Happiness is often what you take into a given situation.

Didn't we just have an OP about the correlation of happiness and intelligence/education? So, chances are most people I meet are more happy than I am. But that was my choice and I'm happy with it. (See what I did there?)
