Why arming everyone with guns is not a good Idea.

I've never fully understood these random mass shootings in the US. I mean, I understand that one could psychologically snap and go on a rampage of some sort, but it almost always ends with a level of carnage that is far less effective than renting a van and slamming it into a bus station full of people.

All in all, guns are stupid and the people who leer at them like some fetish item (a seemingly enormous epidemic in the US) are sick and presumably have a very troubled relationship with their own penis (if not someone else's).

It is not the guns but the culture that is the problem.

What culture does not have rage?. What person does not have a moment of lost sanity? Can you predict that point? Should we let be armed at all times?

The Swiss Difference: A Gun Culture That Works
The country had one mass shooting in 2001, but a resulting anti-gun referendum failed to pass. The Swiss will not give up the gun. Can their system work in the U.S.?
--------
The Swiss Shooting Sports Association runs about 3,000 clubs and has 150,000 members, including a youth section. Many members keep their guns and ammunition at home, while others choose to leave them at the club. And yet, despite such easy access to pistols and rifles, “no members have ever used their guns for criminal purposes,” says Max Flueckiger, the association’s spokesperson.

“Social conditions are fundamental in deterring crime,” says Peter Squires, professor of criminology and public policy at the University of Brighton in Great Britain, who has studied gun violence in different countries and concluded that a “culture of support” rather than focus on individualism, can deter mass killings.

“If people have a responsible, disciplined and organized introduction into an activity like shooting, there will be less risk of gun violence,” he tells TIME.

That sense of social and civic responsibility is one of the reasons the Swiss have never allowed their guns to come under fire.

Isn't rather hypocritical that the Republicans who plan on attending their convention this summer will be screened with metal detectors so guns can't be brought in, and yet this same group keeps telling its groupies that "it's not guns that kill...". Notice that I did not put in question form.

So I'm on the organizing committee for a big public event here in Canada. The hired event manager is a guy from the US.

As we were going through all the last minute details right before the event, he asked "what about the bag check?"

All the Canadians looked at each other with puzzled expressions. "No - we don't have a bag check. Why would we need that?"

The event manager said "to look for weapons. My last show was in Texas and it's standard there."

"Oh - no, we don't need a bag check."

So... 3,000 people didn't have to have their privacy intruded upon every time they came into our venue. I'd call that a check mark for liberty, and it was because we don't have a society where people think it's necessary to bring firearms to public events.

A lot more of this. Line waiting rage, shopping rage and etc. people have no problem beating each other for little things. Let them have guns and they will end people for little things.
I just imagine that everyone on this earth is carry a gun, that would be very much sad moments than actual present!

Here it's not allow to carry a knife with you in the road ! , I totaly agree with that.

The Swiss number of guns is high because a high percentage of these guns were government issued and thoroughly vetted because of compulsory military obligations.

Yeah. It always makes me wonder when gun rights advocates use Switzerland in their arguments. It's not as if a country where most of the population has compulsory military service, access to guns is high because they're distributed by the government in a controlled way, and gun use is tightly regulated is nothing like what they're advocating in the US.

Mischievous title.
No one I know of proposes arming everyone.
Some aren't adequately trained.
Some are violent
A lot of people I know shouldn't be armed....including one guy who's a cop.

And yet in the US gun regulation is impossible to get passed in congress.

IF you have a corrupt culture it doesn't matter if they are not allowed guns. Criminals still find it. If gun bans actually work, we wouldn't see criminals with guns, yet they have them anyway.

Let me ask you, do you seriously feel safer knowing you have no way to defend yourself against criminals or corrupt governments? I wouldn't. The police can't teleport. It takes time for them to get there.

I always have a way to defend myself if I chose to. Criminals have never worried me. Corrupt governments I have had to deal with all my life and it doesn't matter where or when I live they will still be corrupt and a gun has never and will never help.
