Why believe in god?

why dhould you believe in god?
well if you have to ask then IMHO you shouldn't believe in god.
Hollow belief is worse than none at all IMHO. If you can live a good life without the 'need' for god then be happy with that.

I believe for some it's a belief and hope that there is a higher existence for us. It has to do with striving.

There is no clear cut answer to the question why, but one of the most common reasons is just a need to understand WHY everything IS. Everyone places a lot of value on the idea of where we came from, in a hope that if we figure that out, maybe we'll know where we're headed. I dont know of a single religion that is simply, "This is God(or other deity/ non-personal entity). You came into being this way. You kids have fun. "
So why believe in God? It depends on you. If you feel that there is something for you to gain as a human being, some area in your life you believe it can enrich and bring meaning to, I fully support becoming a believer of one religion or another. But study, dont take the world religions at a glance, there are thousands of years of back-story to them. And dont let anyone ever tell you faith is a crutch for those too weak to live without a god. I've heard this many times. Faith is something we all have to have, in one form or another. Many people dont understand faith, and i dont entirely either. But I do understand that it is a victory of the heart over the mind.
So, in my own way (in other words a long-winded incoherent effort at communication) I guess I'm saying go for it. There's no reason not to if you are honestly looking for answers.

I can't imagine NOT believing in God...just to see a baby grow inside of it's mother alone is enough of a wonder for me...the miricle of life...sure there are those who say it's all scientific...we just evolved...LOL but then what or whom is responsible for starting that evolving...it all comes back to the Supremeness of God in my eyes...when I see a rainbow I see a promise. When I see spring come about I see God...to me the question IS why not!

It takes a lot to question someone elses beliefs, but aswell to question your own beliefs. For some people they are unfortunate enough to not have a miracle occur that proves them a path of truth. Some dont need that path, some need a path to guide them, but never get one. I personally think many Athiests may never need that path because they live their lives in a very humble manner while obiding by laws that allow them to remain no greater sinner than others.
Personally I sure wish everyone could have a great powerful vision from beyond, an unexplainable miracle that happens before your eyes and a vision of God's form. Because for so many, without that, they are missing certain peices of the puzzle of life weather or not they believe or not. Its truelly a beautiful experience, but it was not made easy to understand.
Newton was asked if he believed in a higher being. He said, "You don't think this Universe was an accident? I studied the Universe and I can tell you this is no accident."
Also a good debate on faith could be read in Einstiens final Autobiography. "The World as I See It" its a great book no matter what you believe and its not a book of formulas like some may believe.

You bring up a good point. Why not believe in a god? For me, it's because the proof that a god exists is not in his favor. You might tell me to look at the miracle of life. A baby growing in a mother's womb is truly amazing to me as well. But there is nothing supernatural about why babies develope like that. First, babies just kind of budded off their 'mother.' Then they hatched out of eggs. We eventually get to live, warm births. I understand that you have faith. But for people like Atheist1 and myself, faith just isn't enough to base an entire existence around. Not without some kind of solid evidence.
Now just try to block out everything that you have heard in church, everything you learned from your parents, everything you read in the Bible, and just look at your surroundings. Has the idea ever crossed your mind that gods were just something that humans made up? When I look at nature, of course I am awestruck, but gods just aren't part of the equation.

I can't tell you why you should believe in God, all I can do is say why I believe in him. When I was dealing with undiagnosed bipolar depression, I started questioning the purpose of life and I started thinking about why we are here. I started to think about what life is and I figured that if there is no God, than consciousness is just an illusion and all we are are sophisticated chemical reactions that would soon fizzel out. Also, I don't see how evolution could create what it has, on it's own. It is these two things that first lead me to believe in God. Last year around June, I started seeking God due to my own spiritual needs. The more I sought God, the more I came to believe in Jesus and the idea that you could have a personal relationship with God. After I started defining myself as Christian and building a relationship with God, I started noticing that my prayers were being answered. A "relationship" with God is something that I didn't understand before I experienced it, but it is why I believe.
It has always bothered me that people can take the words of others, even supposed leaders (the pope, the president, a priest, or even Isaac Newton) and accept whatever conclusions they have come up with. They have no idea what happens to you after you die nor "whether or not the Universe was an accident."
Why would you blindly follow a pastor or other leader if his word is as good as yours?
Newton lived a long time ago in a different environment and society, to accept his answer on such a big question makes no sense, especially because you live now...in much more sophisticated circumstances.
