Why did Christ spend three days in Hell?

Thanks! Sorry about the confusion here; you were quoting while I was editing.

What part of FFH's post were you disagreeing with?
My post was for the benefit of Comprehend. Unless FFH believes that there is a "geographical" divide between Paradise and Prison, I have no argument with him on this issue :)

I guess that makes sense; I certainly don't believe that there is any "geographical" place; I rather agree with your "Emotional state".

C.S. Lewis hinted as much at the end of Screwtape Letters, where Screwtape tells his nephew devil Wormwood of his failure to corrupt their "patient." Speaking of the patient's travel to heaven after death, Screwtape says that the fires that burn Wormwood are now merely cool light to the patient. Sounds to me like Lewis intended for the light of heaven and the fires of hell to be the same thing.

Wow, this should totally be a new thread....

No scripture, just commentary, commenters nearly all disagree it's meaning!
1 Peter 4:6 For for this cause was the gospel preached also to them that are dead, that they might be judged according to men in the flesh, but live according to God in the spirit.
The most of them say "Those who are 'spiritually dead' not literally dead, but a few opt for the actual dead.
All my life I have heard this topic discussed and comments like Jesus went down into hell and preached the gospel to the lost souls imprisioned there. When I read the bible for myself, 'lo and behold' nada, zip, zilch, not once in simple easy to understand scripture or verse that said that!
Again, 'the precepts of men'! choose your poison! Your 'EarCandy!'
I'll just keep on with what is written and can be proven in the Tanack! Too much tampering with the NT! You must 'prove all things written in it.'
Shalom

Spirit prison is in the core of the earth, as with the analogy of the story of Jonah and the whale illustrates. As was Jonah in the belly of the whale, so did Christ organize righteous spirits to preach the gospel to those in spirit prison, which is in the core of the earth/hell....

Spirit paradise is all around us ... This earth is a spirit paradise but we can't see these spirits unless we are given that power by God or are spirit/spiritual eyes are opened...

Whether hell and spirit prison are one in the same, I think it would be safe to say they are two seperate places, but in the same general location, which is the core of the earth...It would be kind of hard to teach the gospel to anyone in hell....They certainly would need a lot of air conditioners...;)

You can start another thread and we can talk about that or maybe I will later, have to go to work now...

OK, then, I have an argument with FFH :)

Where did the "core of the earth" thing come from????

I've already stated most of my position. Paradise and Prison are the same "place" (I belive it is here on this Earth, all around us, but that doesn't really matter much).

Basically it comes from looking at the whole Jonah and the whale thing.

The whate representing the earth and the belly the core of it and Jonah being in the belly for 3 days represents the righteous spirits who were organized by Christ to go and preach the gospel to those who weere bound in helll.

Like Kat has explained, with a quote she posted, the gap between hell and spirit paradise was bridged when Christ became a sacrifice for sin....

Possibly then a place called spirit prison was created in order to hold these unrighteous spirits while they are taght the gospel, accept it ans then repent...

We discussed it in more detail here:http://www.religiousforums.com/forum/showthread.php?t=46957

But you have said in this thread that Christ didn't go to Spirit Prison. Since Jonah's experience was likened to that of Christ...

I posted this before I saw the other thread. It should probably be continued there.
