Homosexual marriage?

I can't understand the logic behind this. For sure, some people have relationships with those of the same sex - I can understand that.

But why bother getting married?

I really cannot see the purpose.

Why would anyone want to do this and how come it is legal in some places?

Surely this should be banned.

Why do you think heteros get married?
(I suspect the answers are the same.)

And don't call me Shirley.

Marriage is surely a convention thought up a long time ago for men and women to join together , whether for love, religion, family reasons etc..

Correct me if I am wrong but I doubt it was ever intended to be used for people of the same sex.

If so, then why change it now?

Maybe they think it would be nice. It could be nice. They probably see that straight wedded couples get special treatment by society and even by law. So why not?

Personally, I've been avoiding marriage since I first started dating ladies, for about 30 years now. Like I said, it could be nice, maybe for someone else. :p

I was thinking the same thing. If heteros want to get married, wouldn't the homos feel the same thing? For me, it's more on the emotion..

Why don't they just have their own ritual then?

Why would you especially want to take on a hetero concept/system of marriage other than to exploit the system financially?

I don't know what the world is coming to.

Why should only hetero couples be able to "exploit" it?

Because one of the concepts of modern day marriage is to make life slightly easier financially for a normal couple , especially with children.

Seeing as a homosexual couple cannot have children then it seems like a form of corruption for them to take this benefit.

Homosexual marriage should be banned.

That isn't a compelling argument to deny the benefit to couples you define as not "normal".

Some do bear children. Some adopt.
They function just like hetero couples in this regard.

Homosexual marriage should be banned.
Why?

As a bisexual, I see it as more symbolic than anything. Personally, I say marriage is a symbolic act and the law shouldn't even touch it at all. But when the law prohibits a certain group from doing something, that is discrimination, plain and simple.

That's part of the issue. What is normal?

Not being able to have children only applies to homosexuals? What about straights who can't have children?

Homosexual marriage should be banned.

On what grounds?

Why can't homosexual people want to get married for the same reasons?

I really cannot see the purpose.

Banned on what legal grounds?
Marriage is a legal contract.
Any and everything else that people attach to marriage is nothing more than window dressing.

Marriage is surely a convention thought up a long time ago for men and women to join together , whether for love, religion, family reasons etc..
Says who?
You?
Someone who refuses (or just plain cannot) support their claims with nothing but more claims?

Correct me if I am wrong but I doubt it was ever intended to be used for people of the same sex.
ah, just like fluoride (a waste product from the making of aluminum) was never intended to be used for fighting cavities?

If so, then why change it now?
How do you know that this current "change" is to restore marriage to what it was?

Why don't they just have their own ritual then?
Marriage is a legal contract.
All the various rituals surrounding it are nothing more than window dressing.

Why would you especially want to take on a hetero concept/system of marriage other than to exploit the system financially?
Maybe they are wanting to continue the hetero ritual of divorce?
I mean, who does not want to be able to say that they are helping fulfill the sacred hetero tradition of divorce?

it is not a "hetero" concept/system.

I don't know what the world is coming to.
There are simply far to many people who want so desperately for their biases, prejudice, and bigotry to be supported and justified by law.

Because one of the concepts of modern day marriage is to make life slightly easier financially for a normal couple , especially with children.
Interesting how you include the word "modern" in there.
So what was marriage about BEFORE this "modern" model?

Seeing as a homosexual couple cannot have children then it seems like a form of corruption for them to take this benefit.
Psssst.
You do know that it is possible to have children without being married, right?

Homosexual marriage should be banned.
Based on what legal argument?
Again, marriage is a legal contract.
All the fluff and window dressing people attach to it does not change the fact that it legal contract.

Now, what legitimate legal reason do you have to ban same sex marriage?

When heteros get married they receive certian societal benefits and rights. These benefits and rights are denied homosexuals without any real reasoning other than people like you prefer to force their own viewpoints on other people.

On the other hand....

Heterosexual marriage?

I can't understand the logic behind this. For sure, some people have relationships with those of the opposite sex - I can understand that.

But why bother getting married?

I really cannot see the purpose.

Why would anyone want to do this and how come it is legal everywhere?
