Why do gays want to get married?

But whats so wrong with leaving the word 'marriage' to the religious and those that dont subscribe to the religious meaning can use another word. Wouldnt that keep everyone happy?
No.

Aside from that "the religious" are not so homogenous as you imply. I'm religious, and I support queer equality, as do many others.

Which religion? And if some religion happens to endorse same sex marriage (like many first nation traditions do) how do you justify government support of one religion over another?

Trust me, what you are suggesting would not work, and would keep nobody happy.

How about we heterosexual couples abandon the word "marriage" and get our own, un-tainted word?

How long do you suppose it will take the gays to feel left out about it and protest vehemently?

No answers?
Didn't see. Call it whatever you like, I really don't care, so long as you don't discriminate legally.

Tell you what? We'll take marriage, and all it's legal rights and responsibilities. You can have civil unions unrecognized by the federal government. Suits me just fine.

How do you feel about alcoholics?

And what of us with religions which consider marriage to include same sex marriage?

Fact is, marriage is a legally recognized union. This is true around the world and in varying countries. It applies to all people regardless of religion. If religion really mattered then atheists would not marry. Why is no one complaining about atheists getting married and claiming a "religious" union for themselves? Why not ask why atheists would ever want to be connected to something "religious"? Because...marriage itself is NOT a solely religious concept nor does any religion have any claim over it as a whole or the use of the word "marriage".

How about we call it "Normal Marriage"

Homosexual marriage?

I can't understand the logic behind this. For sure, some people have relationships with those of the same sex - I can understand that.

But why bother getting married?

I really cannot see the purpose.

Why would anyone want to do this and how come it is legal in some places?

Surely this should be banned.
look brother , in my country is not allowed this kind of marriage .
.me too I wonder how it's allowed in some countries .
they do everything by the name of the " freedom" .
there I hope there would be a freedom to marry my mother or sister of father ...etc

imagine if every man married a man not woman , and women married women . what is the result . the human would extinction in few hunderd years.

And we all know that legalization of gay marriage turns the entire species gay.

I think not.

BTW, please do not type your responses in the quote box. It makes replying unnecessarily annoying.

How about we call it "Normal Marriage"
Again, no. You don't get to decide what's normal for everyone.

Answer?
Strike three. Explain how it has anything to do with the subject and I might.

Sorry. Your first "question" of post #177 made me rather discount you.

"Question"? It has a question mark on it the end of it, doesn't it? Do you not the know the appropriate syntax to inquire for information in the English language?

Why is allowing gay marriage a corruption on the word "marriage" as opposed to a change, or a revision? Explain your position, or prepare for further ridicule. It's a pretty simple question.

Wait a minute. If you can call what you want "marriage", why can't I call what i want "Normal marriage"?

On the alcoholic question.... never mind. I'm quite sure you'd roll into an evasive little ball like you've done so far.

Have a great day.

I assumed it was a question...after assuming it was english.

"Not uh" is not sensical to me.... you?
Ah. So, you don't even know what ? or . signify... yet you feel equipped to speak for the religious?

Because that's not a new word, as was proposed. It's a childish ploy to keep "your" word "pure."

Hmmmmmm. I'd ask whether you know what evasive means, but given your confusion over basic punctuation marks, there's little doubt for you to benefit from.
