Why do I Dream of Spiders the Night after Meditating?

TurkeyOnRye

I've noticed a peculiar thing that tends to happen during nights of sleep after deep meditations that occur on days prior. I tend to dream of spiders and animal mouths, such as alligator-like mouths. Spiders, however, seem to be the prominent theme. I have some rather abstract ideas about why they occur, but...has anyone else experienced this or other similar dreams after meditating? If so, what did you take away from it and how did it fit into "the bigger picture?" What was the surrounding context? Did they disappear, and how did it affect the quality of your meditation?

What kind of meditation do you practice? When you first start in on any mental practice, oftentimes you'll get some strange side effects from stirring things up. Just keep practicing and eventually you will reach equanimity--when you are settled and comfortable in the practice.

Idk if this is cool to say in the dharma área but i would've say Thats a totem. Like a energy that has qualities to teach you. Maybe it wants to teach you How to weave you world Better

I wouldn't say I'm a beginner at meditating, but I certainly have never done it consistently. I suppose the most accurate description of this practice would be a body meditation, and the result is very deep peace and a feeling of being firmly grounded in the body.

Although the dreams might sound shocking or scary, they're really not that disconcerting. They are to a point...but I typically feel pretty safe in the dream. What I'm really looking for are the missing pieces to make sense out of what I'm seeing/experiencing. That will likely come in time, but I'd really like to hear about other individual experiences.

There's plenty of dream analysis within and around the dharma, which is why I posted the thread here. Everyone's perspective is valid as long as it's on topic. Although I wouldn't word it quite the same, I'd say your thoughts about the dream are fairly close.

Would you consider moving the thread out of the dir?

It seems to me that from a Dharmic perspective it is not very wise to attempt to guess what a set of dream images might mean with so little information - and, particularly, without even direct personal contact with the dreamer.

The potential for reflecting preconceptions back is considerable.

If you still want to have what are arguably blind shots about your dreams, moving the thread to another area might be advisable.

I don't feel strongly about this, but it seemed fair to say it.

Mindfulness immersed in the body is a great way of inducing lucid dreaming! Speak your mind and take control of the dream!

I don't want blind shot interpretations of my dreams by others. I asked in the OP if others who have had similar or identical manifestations in their dreams after meditating what they got out of it. I will edit the post and bold the questions therein, as well as create a few others. It may be a long shot, but it's possible to find patterns within others' experiences. Perhaps such patterns are universal.

There is really none, neither in meditation, nor in dharma. It appears that it is a remembrance from your childhood. Actually, spiders are nice, the connect different points. BTW, are you an IT person? Networks?

Beginning meditators often have physical sensations that they're not accustomed to, like itching or tingling on the skin. The sleeping mind might experience that and then come up with some kind of image to explain it.

I wouldn't read too much into it, in any case.

I remember one of the first times I meditated, the entire room grew dark because I was staring at one spot. Just scary and odd things like that which distort perception. Does it occur EVERY time you meditate?

What was the feeling associated with these dreams?

I did not meditate by staring or counting things, I sang my way to it. 'No thought' stage is enjoyable, but one should not hanker after it or become addicted.
