Why do many religions condemn sexual pleasure?

The clitoris's sole purpose is pleasure. Why would your particular deity create the clitoris but not want it used? Why would your deity make your arms long enough for you to reach your genitals but not want you to masturbate?

But my main questions: Why do so many religions hate sex? What about sex inspires religions to villianize it?

Well, there are two lines of thought that gude my life. My ancestors and the Dharma.

My ancestors (from most I know) are Christian and have Christian morals as that was the foundation they had given slavery time. As such, as with The Dharma, they see lust as a separation from god (or the Dharma not to be confused as a god). They view sexual pleasures as an obessional means of taking away the time to devote themselves to god.

I agree to the extent that lust both translated by the Dharma and Catholicism is meant for union between two people rather than self.

Likewise, the Dharma interprets lust not only physical pleasure but any obession or physical barrier that not only blocks enlightenment but even more so blocks the mind towards help others and self from suffering. It is one of the many aspects of suffering that pollutes the mind and body.

With both trains of thought it blocks the mind from devotion (Christianity) and meditation of the mind (Buddhism). Although pleasure is natual, there are healthier means to gain such pleasure not only in mind (the obsession of wanting lust) but in spirit (the wanting to share that pleasure with someone you love).

The only thing I disagree with in Christianity is the union between male and female only and to have children. The Dharma interpretation, I agree 100 percent.

God also gave us arms long enough for us to reach other people's necks and choke them to death.
We're capable of a lot of things. Doesn't mean they're good, for us or for others.

And it's not a hatred of sex, It's a belief that sex (and specific kinds of sex) can hinder ones spiritual walk.

Beats me. (No pun intended). My religion fully embraces sex. Hail Freya!

Sex is meaningless without love and a honest relationship.

Thou shalt not commit fornication for various reasons and is good advice , christian lands not jail you for fornication
It leads to Deciet ,Conflict etc
It is wrong to use another individual for casual sex , unless for BOTH is mutual
Having Partners of both sex at once is wrong m/f/m/f/m/m/f
Paying for sex is wrong , exploitation , sexual therapists some struggle to find love tough one ,to call
It spreads disease ie HIV
It creates unwanted children and abortion
Depression as your boyfriend ran off with your girlfriend
And lots of other social problems

Sex should be at least between people that do have feelings and is a relationship , friendship .
Can have 10 in an orgy so long as the intent is not fornication is not a problem , not for me unless was nine female .

Sex and control are paired together frequently. The religions wanting most control and obedience will naturally want to have their say on your bedroom behavior.

Whether it's good or bad to each person's perception and judgment, that's just calling it what it is. If control and obedience is lower in scale then all the sex stuff, and natural, "fleshy" desires in general, will be less taboo. It tends to come down to acknowledgment and respect for ego, self, etc. If you need to give or forget "self", it's sexual needs and wants can go bye bye. Sex becomes a necessary yucky for procreation or else is seen as something selfish and sinful. All goes together.

That's a pretty good analysis. I had a fealing "control" was somehow involved, but I couldn't connect the dots.

I mean, what greater power fantasy would there be than to control peoples' basic urges on large scales?

Then again, there are also areas in the world where sex is taboo, but for entirely different reasons. The Japanese, for instance, (based on my limited gaijin knowledge) seem to have a more "keep it in the bedroom" attitude towards sex that extends far enough for it to be a taboo subject in public.

So it's probably not any one single thing, but a combination of things that culminated in the current situation in the West.

A common argument for that might be that whatever religion in question is trying to allow you to learn self restraint.
I don't buy into such arguments, as far as I can see it's just another control mechanism.

It really is, often.

My religion, embracing of sex, is also very big on moderation. Thing is, to my knowledge, that's mostly expressed in controlling oneself, not in sexual encounters, but in alcohol consumption. Which is kind of a no-duh thing.

And this makes sense. Too much of anything is deadly. Too much water is deadly.

Sex isn't something consumed, but here it basically translates to "be safe and consensual."

But there's a world of difference between encouraging moderation for the sake of safety and practicality, and mandating restraint for the sake of "spiritual development."

To you maybe its good to be unorthodox ;-)

...how is that sentence even remotely relevant??
