Why do other Christians hate us?

Why is that other Christians hate Mormons? All the time I see some kind of anti-Mormon propaganda from the evangelical Christian side of things. It seems that most of the anti-Mormon stuff comes from the evangelicals and fundamentalists. Why is this?

Welcome, MormonGirl. There are quite a few Latter-day Saints here on RF. I'll tell you why: We're welcome here. Yes, there are a few Evangelicals who can't stand us and do everything they can to discredit our beliefs. They will insist that they don't hate us, they just want us to find the "real Christ" instead of the "fake Christ we worship." Obviously, they do not understand us as well as they might think.

On the other hand, there are also some great Evangelicals here, along with some great Roman and Orthodox Catholics, some wonderful Muslims, pagans and Buddhists. I'd name a few of them, but I'd be sure to miss someone whom I like and admire a lot. I hope you'll enjoy the many incredible posters of every religion you can imagine, and not let the anti-Mormons get to you too much.

You're right. There are a number of evangelicals and other Christians who are not anti-Mormon. That is great! However, the majority that I have encountered have always been anti-Mormon. They always seem to think that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is a cult or something. That is so wrong and is sad that they think that. For example, my neighbor insists that Mormons believe that Joseph Smith is Jesus. What a ridiculous assertion to make! I tried to correct her but she refused to be corrected.

I don't think they hate us. I think they misunderstand us and are not willing to be open minded enough to try and understand us.

There are a lot of "Mormon" threads here right now, mostly because we have a new Religious Forums member who is trying to figure out what we're all about. Just be patient and things will calm down eventually. Many people have had little or no interaction with Mormons in their lives. Religious Forums gives them this opportunity.

Kind of related - think about how you might sometimes treat people of other religions and backgrounds and try to learn from how you feel on this subject. I think we're guilty of the same crime in many cases.

As an 'outsider' I'd just like to echo your concerns and frustrations and take a moment to welcome you to RF.
As beckysoup61 could tell you I can hardly preach about this as when I first joined RF I made some really ignorant and miss-informed judgements about christianity in general which I truly regret.
This why I set up my thread in the general debates section, I really don't think that this is what RF is meant to be and I really feel sorry for you guys as of late.
I just hope that things settle down and you decide to stay with the community as the majority of us are a really great bunch and hold a wealth of knowlege.
I'm not sure my thoughts are welcome here but I thought some support from an 'outsider'(really not liking that term lol) would help make you feel a little better and more welcome to the RF community.
My thoughts are with you in this matter.
Sincerely
Craig.

I never get tired of these threads as theyre obviously based on fact and highly researched.

I tell you what, for all you LDS folk, ill get a signed statement from my best mate, a mormon, that says i have not "mormon bashed" her, i have not "belittled or teared down" her beliefs, and that i have actually been a decent friend, helping her out on many occasions.
Would that be enough for you?
Nah, didnt think so, and wer'e the ones called narrow minded; gotta laugh, you gotta laugh.....:biglaugh:

MormonGirl02,

I don't hate you and I find it disturbing when I see people displaying hatred towards those in your faith, particularly when they claim it is motivated by love. I can't agree with the teachings of your church, but when I disagree I always endeavour to do so respectfully. I know full well that I am far from the only person here that acts in this way towards Mormons and, whilst I can't speak for the others, I hope that you find that we do succeed in our attempt to genuinely disagree both respectfully and lovingly. By all means call me to task if you think I have failed. I hope you have a pleasant and profitable time here.

Actually, they are usually based on very little fact and mostly bias. We usually are able to to tell you exactly what is wrong with what an 'anti-Mormon' is trying to say we believe and present people with what we actually believe.

The only thing people don't like about when we do that is that usually we are closer to their faith then they actually want us to be. ;)

Hate is a product of fear.

Many evangelicals fear us or fear is put into them by their pastors.

Why? Money.

We take converts and that means less support for them.

So the same reason Coke fears Pepsi?

Exactly!

Actually, a Coke insider approached Pepsi recently and offered to sell secrets, but Pepsi, being the upstanding company that it is, told the FBI. The FBI told Pepsi to proceed and instituted a sting, catching the Coke traitor.

The Coke traitor was a big fan of Michigan State University football I heard.

Welcome to the site! Most people I have encountered on this site, dont "hate" mormons but misunderstand. The amount of times I have seen the group of LDS have to re-explain, re-clarify their beliefs is unbelievale. Some people just cant seem to understand the beliefs and know what the ACTUAL beliefs are instead of the rumours.

An example, one claimed that LDS reject the diety of Christ. so you see.... sometimes you just need patience. There are a few who will not listen no matter what you say, but dont worry yourself over it. Let them go there way. As many people have said It is between God and them. If they want to be un christian like by being nasty to others, than God will know!

I hope you have fun, there are some people who are lovely on here too!!!!

(Mainly the LDS lot though...:) )
