Why do Republicans think Trump is so good for the economy?

This baffles me, frankly. I hear it over and over, how good Donald Trump has been for the economy. Yet, consider just a few facts:

How long are the food bank lines, these days?
How many people will be losing their homes, or have real trouble feeding their kids?

"But," says Trump, and so many of his supporters, "look at the stock market -- it's soaring, it's a wonder!"

Okay, stocks are up. The DJ average represents big corporations (like the Walmart's that deliver what the mom and pop shops can't).
Who owns the stock market? Who reaps the benefit?
Well, half of the value of all the stocks on the DJ are owned by the richest 1% of Americans. And the richest 10% of Americans own 92% of the total value of all those stocks. Only 8% is left over for the other 92% of you.

Is that what "a great economy" really is? Or is a great economy one that benefits the majority, not a tiny minority?

(For the record, and before anybody makes a sneering comment, I am NOT an economist, nor have I ever claimed to be one. I am not, in fact, particularly good at my own finances. I am, in other words, like most people.)
From here it appears left and right are comparably unrealistic about trump.

Pre-covid the economy was helped by 8 years of President Obama which set us on a recovery and upward path.
If the economy continues to improve under a Biden administration are you going to say it was helped by 4 years of President Trump's policies?

The economy hasn't really been improving though. Sure, some rich people who were already vastly wealthy made some killer profits, but the common person, as usual, is struggling.
The economy tanked and Trump did nothing to better it for the common person. His only goal was to lie about it and get people infected knowing damn well this is very contagious and must be taken seriously because it is destructive and deadly.
Trump's economy would have been closer to a post-Black Death situation where their was so much death and destruction the economy as we know it would have been radically restructured in response.

If you want to look at it that way... then it has broken the records again and again... so what is your point? did you want to compare unemployment pre-covid with Obama?
Okay, so you don't understand the stock market either.

The stock market should be breaking records while a President is in office. It is hardly news if it does. The correct metric to use is the percentage of increase. Obama outperformed Trump.

What Trump policies? The problem with Trump's policies was that he was driving us towards a crash again. Cutting taxes needs services to be cut too, but Trump did not do that. He was given a healthy growing economy and he did nothing to maintain it.

So they say. When something good is happening it is Obama... if something bad is happening it is the Republican's fault.

So goes politics.

On the flip side, Repubs do the same thing.

However!!! Obama said, "What is going to do to bring back business and manufacturing, wave a wand?" Apparently Trump did. (paraphrased)

No, Trump did some good things. He was not a total failure. For example I see I appreciate his tougher, though at times misguided, stance on Chy-na!

I tried to argue with a Trump supporter about the stock market. Facts did not impress him. I showed that even ignoring the Covid19 epidemic that Obama outperformed Trump. He thought that all that mattered were the closing numbers and not the percentage change. I hope that he does not run his own stock portfolio.
The Standard & Poor’s 500 increased 60% during Obama’s first term and 66% during Trump’s.

Not true. You should have included a valid source:

S&P 500 Performance by President

Rats, I cannot directly load the image that refutes the claim. The link still shows that Obama outperformed Trump constantly except for the very earliest months of his term, when we were still deep in a recession.

EDIT: At this point in the first term Obama was at 72.7% and Trump is at 62.8% The Corona virus does not appear to have had much of an effect. There was a ten percent drop but that was quickly followed by a recovery.

Such a tired argument. Trump’s economy had growth levels Obama and his cronies claimed were unattainable.
