Why do the gods hide themselves?

As a polytheist who views their Gods as the essence of natural forces, this doesn't apply to me, since They would be self-evident. Been in love with someone? Then you've been touched by Aphrodite. Lusting after someone? Then you're Eros' plaything for the moment. :p Etc.

I'll never understand why the gods hide themselves. How is that the loving thing to do? How does it help us? If it doesn't help us, what do you think their reason is for doing so?

If you believe in one God, why do you think he insists that we accept him by Faith? Why not give everyone clear personal messages from time to time? Why remain hidden? (It pisses me off! grrrr!! :mad:)

It makes perfect sense to me;

If you love somebody, you want them to love you- but you cannot force them to do so.

Especially if they are pissed off at you!

It's entirely up to them to want to reciprocate your love willingly and with an open heart, without that, love is meaningless
